Idle it known that 1 (inn'rcnEN R. HANNA, a citizen of the United States, residin at Boston, in the county of lfiuii'olk and tate of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Infants Night- (iarments, of which the following is a speer lication.

The object of the present invention is toA furnish a night'` garment `tot.' children and particularly for very young infants, such garment being of a character such that 1t will prevent the child wearing it from be coming uncovered, and being at the saine time so made as to enable undergarments to be removed and replaced without requirmg to be removed itself but in as simple and convenient a manner as ,though it were removed.

The precise nature of the invention and the character of garment in which it is em bodied may be best understood by reference to the following detailed description of such a garment in connection with the drawings accompanying this specification.

The night garment here described 1s 1ntended to cover the entire body of the child with the exception oi the head and hands, being particularly designed to cover the legs and feet. Hence it is made with a body or trunk portion o having a neck opening at b, sleeves o c, and leg portions or legs d ai terminatingr in closed foot pockets e e, which for convenience of description are here called the feet of the garment. The garment in the form here shown is made to open in the back. havingr a slit extending Ifrom the neck opening down the middle of the back, the flaps of which are provided with but tons and buttonholes. This opening may, however, be provided instead in the front of the garment, although the rear opening has certain advantages.

In the front, at the bottom of the body part of the garment is a large opening which extends from points f and g on opposite sides about the region of the waist on downward and inward inclinations to points It il on the inner sides oi the legs, and between these points the opening Jfollows the outline of the crotch between the legs. The front breadth of the garment `forms a flap la which is outlined by the lines fwn, limi, f-g and is adapted to be turned back on a line between the points f and g. When turned down in the .normal position, this lap is se curedby buttons which may be provided in any desired number and' convenient arrangement and are designated by the letter Z.

These buttons are sewed upon a strip m which sewed to the rear breadth of the garment between the points t and fi, and also on the reinforced edges of the body parts which underlie the side edges f h and (j of the flap.

Thus, when the flap k is closed down and buttoned, it makes the front of the garment continuous and in secure union with the legs; while, when it is unbuttoned and turned back, it leaves the lower part of the childs body uncovered, and the opening is so large as to enable the attendant to remove and replace inner wrappings with perfect ease, with out inconvenience or discomfort to the child and without needing to withdraw the childs feet from the legs of the garment.

I do not intend by the present descripf tion and claims to limit the manner in which the garment may be otherwise made, that is as to the number and pattern of the pieces used in its construction; neither do I intend to restrict the present invention to a garment which has feet or closed leg tubes. My aim is to protect the invention involved in the lower front flap applied to a garment so made as to incase the legs of the wearer, without regard or limitation to any other feature of the garment.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An infants garment comprising a body and attached leg portions, and having ay lower front opening on lines running from opposite sides of the body'portion to points on the inside of the leg portions below the crotch and between the last named points, and a flap connected to the front of the body portion adapted to be detachably fastened over such opening and to be turned back so as to uncover the opening.

2. An infants night garment having a body portion with attached leg portions,

and provided with an opening in the crotch running between points on the inner sides of the leg portions and from these points diagonally across the leg portions to points at opposite sides of the body portion in the region of the waist; the lower front part of the body portion forming a flap adapted to be turned back on the line between the last named points.
