UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS FRANKENSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. -Y.
COLLAR AND CRAVAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,998, dated November 23, 1897. Application filed December 2, 1896. I Serial No. 614,164. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS FRANKENSTEIN, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Collar and Oravat for Ladies Wear, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined collar and cravat for ladies wear, and has for its object to produce an article of apparel which may be worn as a-collar and cravat and which is capable of many mutations or changes.
To this end my invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.
My invention will be understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which I .Figure 1 is a face View of a ladys combined collar and cravat embodying my invention, the same being opened out, as for laundering purposes. Fig. 2 represents the samearticle in the position which it'will occupy when being worn. Fig. 3 is a View of the same article opened out in the same position as in Fig.- 1 and showing also a scarf, handkerchief, or other fabric in combination therewith. Fig. 4 is a view of the structure shown in Fig. 3 in the position for wear. Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, A is a curved upright collar, and B a band which is laid against the lower edge of the collar and secured thereto by tacks or rows of stitches a only that is to say, I secure the band B'to the collar A at two points only, leaving between the collar and the band B, between these points, an opening or aperture Z).
be used plain, the band or cravat B is folded along the line a r, and the ends of the collar are brought together in the position shown in Fig. 2. The collar may be secured to the waist of a dress in any suitable manner, as by means of buttonholes d or other fastenings. The chief advantage of my invention, however, is that the aperture 1) enables me to employ an auxiliary cloth or scarf 0 in combination with the simple structure .shown in Figs. 1 and 2. desiredv color or textureas, for instance, a colored silk handkerchief. In order to employ the scarf, I pass one end through the aperture 1) and turn it over, folding the ends along the lines a c, as before, on top of the scarf, the eifect being that shown in Fig. 4.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new and useful article of manufacture, the herein-described combined collar and cravat structure, comprising the combination of an upright collar A, a band B secured by the middle of its upper edge to the middle of the lower edge of the collar at two points removed from each other so as to leave an opening b between the collar and band, and a scarf 0 passing through said opening between the collar and band B and around the said band B, and exposed in front of the upper portion of the said band B, whereby a combined collar and changeable cravat is produced, substantially as described.
