Be it known that I, ANDREW O. HnIoHEL- BEGH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Baden, in the county of Orange and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Collar and Tie, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates generally to wearing apparel and more particularly it involves an improved collar and tie adapted for use with each other whereby an improved article of wear is provided which presents a finished appearance to a persons dress, at the same time providing a novel form of outfit.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved form of collar, together with a particular form of tie especially adapted for use therewith, the collar and tie being provided with means whereby they may engage each other and may also engage the garment on which they are worn whereby the collar and tie may be held in position for wear.

A further object of my invention is to provide an improved form of neckwear which will fulfil the purpose of the ordinary collar and tie but which, at the same time, involves a departure from the standard types whereby a new and useful type is provided.

Reference is to be had to the accompany-' ing drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of my collar and tie in position for wear; Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof in detached posit-ion, showing the peculiar construction of the parts; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the various fastening means whereby the relation of the collar and tie to these fastening means is illustrated.

My improved collar is of the folded type, the end portions thereof being provided with the tabs 1, 2, which are extended from the body of the collar by cutting along the inclined line, each tab being provided with the usual buttonhole 3, 4, in order to engage with the button 5, also passing through the shirt band 6, 7. The tab 1, together with the adjacent tab 1 are each of substantially the same length, this tab 1 being provided with a buttonhole 8, adjacent its outer end, together with a button 9 secured thereon between the end of the tab and the vertical line extending downwardly from the end of the folded part 10. The other tab 2 is substantially shorter than the adjacent outer tab 2, this outer tab being provided with buttonholes 11, 12, one of the holes 12 being adapted for engagement with the button 9 carried by the tab 1, as shown particularly in Fig. 1.

The tie which is adapted for use with my improved form of collar is of such length that it may extend around the collar and between the folds thereof, the end portions 13, 14, being extended sufficiently to be exposed between the tabs of the collar, as

shown in Fig. 1. The end portion 1A is provided with a buttonhole 15. There is also provided a suitable button 16 which is remote from the outer end and which is normally covered by the outer fold of the collar. The other end port-ion 13 is provided with a buttonhole 17 at its outer end, together with another buttonhole 18 remote from this end, a button 19 being suitablypositioned between these buttonholes.

In placing the collar and tie in position for use it is fastened to the neckband at the rear portion, as is usual in all collars, the front portions, however, being brought together in the following way: The buttonhole 4 in the tab 2, together with the buttonhole 3 in the tab 1, are engaged with the button 5 extending through the parts of the shirt band 6, 7; the buttonhole 15 in the end portion 14 of the tie is then brought into engagement with the button 5 as is the buttonhole 18 in the end portion 13 of the tie; the buttonholel'? at the outer end of the under portion 13 of the tie is then brought into engagement with the button 16 on the end. portion 14 of the tie and the buttonhole 8 is engaged with the button 5 on the end portion 13 of the tie; such buttoning of the parts secures them relatively to each other and the final appearance is brought about by bringing the buttonhole 11 on the outer tab 2 into engagement with the button 19 on the end portion 13 of the tie and bringing the buttonhole 12 in the end of the tab 2 into engagement with the button 9 on the end portion of the outer tab 1 of the collar.

Fig. 1 illustrates the relation of the parts in position for wear, it being noted that such a collar and tie presents the finished appearance of the neck, the usual flowing or hanging tie being done away with.

It is obvious that the size and material of the collar may be varied at will and that the lengths of the various tabs may also be changed, the material of the tie and the color thereof depending largely on the taste of the person wearing the same, without involving a departure from the inventive idea as set forth in the following claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. The combination of a folded collar having inner tabs and outer tabs at the ends thereof, one of the outer tabs being of greater length than the other, the edges of the collar adjacent the tabs being remote from each other, together with a tie positioned between the folds of the collar, the tabs being provided with means for engaging a button on a garment and the said longer tab being also provided with means for engaging the other outer tab whereby when the tabs are brought together and secured in position the tie will be exposed.

The combination of a folded collar hav ing inner tabs and outer tabs at the ends thereof, the folded portions of the collar adjacent the tabs being remote from each other, the inner tabs being each provided with a buttonhole for engagement with a button on a garment, a tie positioned between the folds of the collar and the ends thereof being provided with means for engaging each other, the outer tabs of the collar being provided with means for engaging the button on the said garment whereby when the parts are secured in position the tie will be exposed.

3. The combination of a folded collar having inner and outerv tabs at its ends and a tie contained between the folds, the folded portions of the collar adjacent the ends being remote from each other, the inner tabs being each provided with a buttonhole for engage ment with a button carried by a suitable garment, one end of the tie being provided with a buttonhole for engagement with the button of the said garment, the said end being also provided with a button, the other end of the tie being provided with a buttonhole for engagement with the button of the said garment, another buttonhole at the other end for engagement with the button at the other end of the tie, the said end being also provided with a button intermediate the said buttonholes, one of the outer tabs of the collar being provided with a buttonhole for engagement with the button of the said garment and being also provided with a button, the other outer tab being provided with a plurality of buttonholes, one of which engages the intermediate button on one of the ends of the tie and the other of which engages the button on the other outer tab.

4. As a new article of manufacture a folded collar having inner and outer tabs at each end thereof, the upper edges of the said tabs being inclined, the inner tabs being provided with buttonholes for securing them to a suitable garment, one of the outer tabs being provided with a button and also a but tonhole and the other outer tab being provided with a plurality of buttonholes whereby the outer tabs are secured together, the said collar being adapted to receive a tie be tween its folds and to hold the same exposed adjacent the tabs when the collar is worn.
