Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
' To ZZ llt/wm 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I,H3nn.\nn F. HURD, a
l citizen of the United States, residing at Troy. county of Rensselaer', and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soft Fold-Collars, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to such improvements'and consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and subsequently claimed. Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein. Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view in perspective of a soft foldcollar embodyi ing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the broken-away ends of the collar showing the front side of the ends of the band, and
` the ends of the top opened out fiat.
The invention relates to what are known in the trade as soft fold-collars, which have a folded-over top made of soft or unstarched fabric. In certain styles of such softfoldcollars the front ends of the folded-over top terminate in V-shaped points which extend a considerable distance below the bottom edge of the band, and in collars of this style it is found difficult, to maintain in proper position in use these V-shaped points of the folded-over top.
The principal object of the present invention is to maintain in proper position, in the use ofsuch a collar, the ends of the folded-over top where the same project below the band of the collar. l
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1 represents the band, a-nd 2 the folded-over top, the latter, as well as the band if desired, being made of soft unstarched fabric.
The baud hasthe usual short end, 3, and the usual interlocking long end, 4, adapted to he inserted between the band and foldedover top at the other end of the collar. The band is provided with the usual back button-hole, 5, and the usual front buttonholes, 6, in its' ends. and may also be provided with a buttonhole, T, in the long end. l, adapted to engage a button, S. .fastened to the, other endw, wherebv the hand Vcangbe attached to the neekbandof av shi-rt, and the-"ends of the band connected together in the usual manner.
In carrying out my linvention I attach tol the bottom edge .of the long end, L1, of the band a pair oftabs, 9-9, which depend `therefrom and are provided respectively with buttonholes, 10 and 11, and I attach to the inner side the respective ends of the folded-over top, 2, buttons, 12 and 13, adapted, when the front ends of the band are buttoned together by the usual front' collarloutton inserted through the buttonholes, 6-6, to engage the respective buttonholes, 10 and 11,I in the talos, 9.
Such equivalent fastening devices as may be desired may be substituted for the but-- tons, l2 and 13, and the buttonholes, 10 and 11.
The buttons, 12 and 13, are preferably attached by blind-stitching or by stitching extending only through the inner plies of the folded-over top so that the fastening means is invisible on the front or exposed surface of the folded-over top.
In applying the collar it is buttoned upon the shirt-neckband in the usual manner, with the scarf or necktie inserted between the band and'v folded-over top, after which the buttons, 12 and 13, are inserted in the respective buttonholes, 10 and l1.
The knotmay be formed in the necktie before or after the ends of the top are buttoned to the tabs, 9-9- The'tabs, 9-9, may be made separatev from each other as shown in Fig. 1, or may devices, andV tabs attached to and depending below the band and` provided with fastening devices adapted to engage the respective fastening devices on the ends of the folded-over top.-
2. A soft fold-collar having a band, a soft folded-over top with ends extending below the band, said band having a long end adapted to be inserted between the band and folded-over top at the other en'd of the collar, buttons attached to the inner side of the respective ends of the folded-over top where they extend beow the band, and a. pair O'f butonholed tubs attached o and depending below the bottom edge of Said long @ml th@ band und adapted to engage th@ respective buttons on the ends of the foldedver top.
