SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 671,243, dated April 2 1901.

Be it known that I, ISAAC STEINAU, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Neck tie-Holder,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
One purpose of the invention is to provide 00. Serial No. 41,059.
a necktie-holder adapted to be applied to the back portion of a collar and straddle the back collar-button and which will be held in position by frictional engagement with the collar, the fastener being so constructed that the band of the necktie placed in contact with the outer face of the fastener will be held against lateral and vertical movement.
A further purpose of the invention is to so construct the device that when the collar is removed the device will remain on the collar and in locking engagement with the neckband of the tie.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar viewed from the rear, illustrating the device applied to the collar and the neckband of a tie held to the collar by the device. A represents a collar, B the improved fas tener, and C the neckband of a tie held in position on the'collar by means of the improved device. The device consists of an arched body l0, provided at the upper central portion of its connecting member with an extension 11, and in said connecting member of the arched body at the center of said member an aperture 12 is produced. the lower edge of the collar A is to be received in the spaces between the upturned portions 13 of the legs of the body and the main portion of the body. A pivoted and spring-controlled cap 14 is carried by the eX- tension 11 of the body, and this cap is provided with a pin or spur 15, which when the cap is closed down on the outer face of the body will enter the aperture 12 in the body, as shown in Fig. 4.
In operation, as stated, the collar is received between the upturned members 13 of the body and its main por-tion, the legs of the arched body 10 being at each side of the bu ttonhole in the collar. The cap 14 is in an upper position when the cap is applied to the collar, and the neckband C of the necktie is placed in engagement with the outer face of the body 10 of the device, whereupon the cap 14 is closed down and the pin or spur 15 will pass through the neekband of the tie and will enter the aperture 12 in the body of the device, as shown in Fig. 4t.
When the improved device is applied to a collar, it is evident that the neckband of a tie cannot move vertically or endwise and that the collar may be unbuttoned and removed from the shirt without disturbing the device or the neckband of the tie, the device remaining on the collar and the neckband secured to the device.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire t-o secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a necktiel holder, consisting of an arched body adapted to straddle a buttonhole of a collar and having its legs bent rearwardly and upwardly, and provided with an aperture in the center of its connecting portion, and a spring-controlled cap pivoted to the top of the central connecting portion of the arched body and provided with a pin or spur adapted to enter the said aperture when the cap is closed, as set forth.
