To aZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, DANIEL RoYsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lafayette, in the county of Tippecanoe, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Combined Collar-Button and N ecktie-Holder, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to improvements in combined collar buttons and necktie holders, and has for its object to provide a neat, cheap and simple device which serves the double purpose of a collar button for attaching the collar to the neckband of the shirt, and as a holder or guard for retaining the necktie in the proper position upon the collar.

My invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same parts are indicated by the same letters.

Figurel is a longitudinal side elevation of my combined collar-button and necktieholder. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 13' C of Fig. l and looking to the right in the said figure; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a collar, showing the necktie in the opera tion of being tied. The closed link forming the head of the collar-button is shown in dotted lines, as also parts of the tie.

The base and shank of the button may be of any suitable construction, but should pref erably be either in one piece or the shank should be permanently fixed upon the base. The long closed link A which constitutes the head of the button and the necktie holder is made with a long narrow opening which is of just the proper size to-allow the tie to be passed through once, This link is rigidly fixed upon the shank of the button at right angles thereto, and near enough to one end of the said link to allow of its being passed through. the variousbuttonholes in the collar band of the shirt and in the collar.

In applying the button to the buttonhole the long end of thelink is passed through first, and when the further movement of the link is stopped by the shank of the button coming in contact with the side of the buttonhole, the link is then turned into line with the buttonhole, and the short end of the linkis read ily passed through.

The button may be used either upon the front of the collar as shown in Fig. 3, where it will be invisible when the tie has been tied, or it may be used upon the back of the collar to hold the tie down, in which'case it may be visible, and might be made of silver or gold if desired. It may be used upon the back of the collar not only with that class of ties known as string ties, but may also be used with any sort of a made up tie which is adjusted to the neck of the wearer by a narrow band adapted to be passed around the collar and then securedin front in any of the well known Ways.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

As a new article of manufacture, a combined collar button and necktie holder, comprising a fiat base, a shank rigidly fixed thereto, and a head'consisting of a long narrow closed link through which the necktie may be passed before tying, and which link is rigidly fixed to the said shank ata point near enough to one end to allow of its being passed through the buttonholes one end at a time, substantially as and for the purposes described.
