SOFT FOLD-COLLAR. 7
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1M)? To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, CURTIs W. DORMANDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soft Fold-Collars, of which the following is a specification.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
The principal object of the invention is to retain in proper position in use, the ends of the folded-over top of a soft fold-collar.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view in perspective of a soft fold-collar embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the ends of the collar separated, and one end of the top folded back to show the button whereby said end of the top is detachably connected with the band.
Referring to the drawing wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1, is the band, and, 2, the folded-over top of the collar.
The band and top are made of the usual soft fabrics forming a collar adapted to be laundried without starch.
The band has the usual back buttonhole, 3, and the usual front buttonhole, 4, in its short end, 5, and the usual front button: hole, 6, in its long end, 7
In carrying out my invention, I provide the ends of the folded-over top with buttonholes, 8, adapted to engage buttons, 9, on the respective ends of the band, whereby each end of the folded-over top can be detachably secured directly to the corresponding end of the band.
By thus detachably securing each end of the top to the neighboring or corresponding end of the band, the ends of the top can thus be connected with the band before the collar is attached to the neckband of the shirt; and if desired, the necktie can also be placed in position before the collar is attached to the neckband of the shirt, the button connections, 9, serving to hold the necktie in place.
The corner-portions of the ends of the folded-over top are curved as shown at, 10; and in order to hold these curved cornerportions, in proper position, it is necessary that the buttonholes, 8, should be located as near the edges of the curved corner-portions of the top as possible.
To permit of such location of the buttonholes, 8, I cut away the lower corner-portion of the long end, 7, of the band preferably upon a curved line, 11, from a point beneath the front buttonhole, 6, in said long end of the band, to the upper corner, 12, of said long end of the band, whereby I am able to locate the button, 9, on the short end of the band at a point which is covered by the long end of the band in collars having the band out in the usual form.
The upper portion of the long ends, 7, of the band being left intact, accomplishes the usual purpose of holding the meeting end-portions of the folded-over top in proper position, when said long end of the i band is inserted between the band and the folded-over top at the other end of the collar.
What I claim as new and desire to se cure by Letters Patent is A soft fold-collar comprising a band, and a folded-over top having rounded corner-portions each provided with a buttonhole near its edge, said band having a long end the lower corner of which is abruptly cut away and its upper corner adapted to be inserted between the band and foldedover top at the other end of the collar, said band having near its long end a button adapted to engage said buttonhole in the corresponding corner-portion of the foldedover top and, near its other end at a point adjacent to the edge of the cut-away corner portion of the long end of the band in use, a button adapted to engage said buttonhole in the other corner-portion of the foldedover top.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of September, 1915.
CURTIS W. DORMANDY.
