COLLAR WITH TIE-SLIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filed June 1, 1914. Serial No. 842,151.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars with Tie-Slides, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in collars, and has for its object to provide a turn down collar which embodies novel features of construction whereby the tie is held out of engagement with the collar-button so as to slide freely back and forth, and is at the same time supported in position within the collar so that it can not Work its way downwardly below the edge of the collar.
A further object of the invention is to provide a turn down collar with a tie slide which can be manufactured at substantially the same cost as the ordinary turn down collar, which can be laundriedwithout additional expense or any danger of being torn and mutilatedand which admits of the tie being readily placed in position within the collar and drawn freely back and forth therein as desired.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.
For a fullunderstanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the collar before the various flaps thereof are folded into position. Fig. 2 is a similar'view with the tie slide flap folded upwardly. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the tie slide folded upwardly and the body of the collar fielded downwardly. Fig. 4 1s a vertical sectional view through a collar showing the same as applied to the neckband of a shirt and also showing the tie in position therein.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
Specifically describin the present embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1 designates the body of the collar which is adapted to be applied to the neckband 2 of 'jections adapted to be torn and mutii a shirt in the usual manner and is provided at opposite ends thereof with the tongues 3, A button-hole 4 is provided in the body 1 at substantially the central portion thereof and toward its lower edge, and correspondmg button-holes 5 are also formed in the tongues 3. The button-hole i is adapted to engage the collar-button 6 at the back of the neckband of the shirt, while the button-holes 5 are adapted to engage the collar-button 7 at the front of the neckband of the shirt, the two tongues 3 then overlapping each other. The turn down flap 8 extends substantially the full length of the body portion 1 along one side thereof, while the tie slide flap 9 extends along the edge of the turn down flap 8 terminating somewhat short of the ends of the former, although. being of a suflicient length to extend around the back and sides of the collar. This tie slide flap 9 is uniform in width throughout its entire length and has the rounded corners 9 so as to avoid all sharp projections. The Width of the tie slide flap 9 is considerably less than that of the turn down flap 8, but is sufficient to extend upwardly above the but ton-hole 4 when the flaps are folded into operative position, as indicated by Fig. 3.
The necktie 10 is adapted is be inserted in the'space between the turn down flap 8 and the tie slideflap 9, and the latter serves both to hold the necktie out of engagement with the rear collar-button 6, and also to support the lower edge of the necktie so that the latter is prevented from working downwardlv a sufficient amount to be exposed below the edge of the collar. It will thus be obvious that the tie c n slide freely back and forth between the aps 8 and 9 without catchin upon or engaging the collar-button 6, an
that it is at the same time supported in proper position. By extending the tie slide -flap 9 throughoutgreater portion of the. length of the iiap 8 and making it of a uni form width, a collar is provided which can a turn down fla and a tie slide flap eatending continuou y throughout the greater portion of the length of the turn down flap as keep the tie out of engagement with the 10 so as to extend around the back and sides of collar-button entering the button-hole of the the collar when in use, said tie slide flap bebody.

body and provide a substantially continuous ALBERT H. GRUNDMAN,
support for the lower edge of the tie as well J 05. B. BEELES.
