UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES HYATT-WOOLF, 0F LONDON, ENGLAND.
DOUBLE SHIRT-COLLAR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HYATT- lVooLr, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 12S/125 Fleet street, E. C., in the city of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double Shirt-Collars7 of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to double or foldeddown shirt collars such as are now commonly worn with a necktie tied in a sailors knot or the like. This knot, when in what is considered to be its correct position, occupies the entire open portion of the collar front, resting against the edges of the collar fold; but it is diilicult to keep it in this position, as the knot tends to fall toward the 'lower portion of the open collar front, frequently even to such an extent as to expose the head of the collar stud.
Now this invention has for its object to provide means, on or connected with the front tab of the collar, for keeping` the knot of the tie in its correct position; and according to the said invention the front tab is prolonged to project into the opposite fold of the collar, and there is provided on this tab a device adapted after the knot has been tied, to engage the lower edge of the tie-band adjacent to the knot and thus to retain the knot in correct position.
In the drawing which forms a part of this application is illustrated a front View of a collar and tie, the collar being provided with a front tab in accordance with this invention and with the left hand down fold of Specification of Letters Patent.

the collar drawn back so as to expose the tie device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 1 denotes a rear tab and 2 the front tab of a collar 3 and which are adapted to be se cured in the usual manner by a stud 4;. The
By means of a device such as described the knot can easily be retained in correct position, while the device can, moreover, easily be so arranged behind the downward fold of t-he collar as to obviate all unsight-liness and greatly to increase the neat appearance of the wearer.
Vhat I claim isc- In a turned-down collar, a body-portion Jformed of an inner and an outer fold, said inner fold provided with a pair of tabs, one of said tabs being prolonged and provided with a pair of slits extending from its top edge to a point removed from its bottom edge and that portion of the tab between said slits being adapted to be drawn out in front of a tie whereby the tie is pressed to engage in the slits and maintained in position.
In testimony whereoi:l I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GHAS. HYATTJWOOLF.
