This invent-ion relates to a shir-t collar.

The main object of the invention is to provide a collar for a shirt, which will hold a tie when knotted, up in its proper or intended position.

Another object of the invention is to provide such a collar at a cost not substantially greater, if at -all greater, than that ofthe usual collar.

It is well known that the tie, lafter it has been knotted and adjusted in its required position, usually drops at the front of the collar. The collar of the present invention is such that the tie remains in its intended position, the knot being effectively held up at the centreof the collar.

In the drawing, the prefered form of a collar made according to the invention, has been shown, the collar shown being of the stiff kind. While experimen-ts with a stiff collar only have been made so far, it is believed .that the invention is applicable to a semi-soft collar as well, and the invention may also be applicable to an attached collar.

Referring now by numerals to the drawing, ID is a detached, stili collar of which II is the outer fold and I2 the inner fold. From one end of the inner fold extends a fastening tab or tongue I3 having a buttonhole I4. The collar so far described, including the tongue I3, is of conventional form or make.

From the opposite end of the inner fold I2 extends another tab or tongue I5 which likewise has a buttonhole adapted to register with the buttonhole of the tongue |'3 to fasten the front of the collar to the stud (not shown) used through the shirt collar band (not shown) in the usual manner.

The tongue I5, instead of being of conventional form or shape, such as the other tongue I3, has its upper edge formed with a notch or recess I6, preferably dening a more or less semi-circular edge. Preferably, the tongue I5 is slightly longer than the other tongue.

The tongue I5 is adapted to be fastened to the button outwardly of the tongue I3. That is, the

5k manner, with both tongues fastened to the button in the usual manner, followingwhich the tab I5 is inserted between the folds II and I2 so that its free or outer end overlies Ithe tie at or near the front ofthe collar, as best shown in l0 Figure 2, the tie passing lengthwise through the slot or recess I6. The tie will -thusrbe held in its proper position, or will not appreciably drop at the front of the collar.

What I claim is:

A shirt collar having outer and inner folds and fastening ,tongues vextending from opposite ends of said inner fold adapted .to overlap one another at -the front of the collar, one ofl said tongues being of a length such as to extend between said folds and to engage at its outer end the juncture portion of said folds, said one of said tongues having its upper portion cu-t out defining an elongated recess through which the tie is received lengthwise and presenting an upper edge below the knot of the tieby which the knot is supported when said tongues are attached tothe stud.

2. In a shirt collar as set forth in claim 1, said recess taking the form of a shallow U.

A shirt collar havingout and inner folds and fastening tongues extending from opposite ends yof said inner fold adapted to overlap one another at the front of the collar, one of said tongues being of a length such as to extend between said folds, said one of said tongues having 5 its upper portion in part cut out to denne a shallow enlongated recess in part extending under one of said folds adapted to receive the tie lengthwise and presenting an upper edge forming a support for the kno-t of .the tie when said tongues are .attached to the s-tud.
