Description

' H K I NECKTIE RETAINER File'd se i. 16', 1955 INVENTOR;
I j ATTORNEYS.
Patented Jan. 19, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NECKTIE RETAINER 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in necktie holders.
The principal object is to produce a holder which may be employed in connection with a collar button or shirt button, for the purpose of holding a necktie against relative movement.
A further object is to produce a device which is economical to manufacture.
A still further object is to produce a device la which is easy to manipulate and one which will not injure the tie material.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 illustrates the manner in which my device is employed when the tie is placed around the neck of the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of a shirt showing my device applied both to the collar button and also to the shirt button,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of my device showing the same applied to a collar button,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of my device on an enlarged scale,
Fig. 5 is a rear view of my device as shown in 30 Fig. 4,
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of Fig. 4, and
Fig. '7 illustrates the blank from which my device is formed.
A necktie often slips so that the knot is below the meeting point of the collar and also in a four-in-hand tie, the free ends flap about unless held. I have, therefore, produced a holder which engages the button of the shirt and also engages the tie, thus holding the two together.
I am aware of the fact that various types of dollar buttons and necktie fasteners have been devised, wherein the fastening means is formed as a part of the collar button, but to my knowledge I am the first to employ a structure in which the fastening element in itself is not a part of the collar button but can be utilized with any type of button employed on a shirt.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferredembodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates an ordinary shirt having a collar 6 which is usually held together by a collar button I. Shirt buttons are shown at 8. My device con- 5 sists of a blank having a narrow medial portion 8 and end portions 9 and H. The end portion 9 hasa pin l2 secured thereto while the portion H is bifurcated so as to form a button engaging opening I3. 10
The device is folded upon itself as best illustrated in Fig. 4 so that when in use the bifurcated portion may engage either the collar button l or shirt button 8. This causes the prong, when the device is positioned as shown in Fig. 3, to extend upwardly and engage the knot I 4 of the tie. When the device is positioned as shown in the lower illustration of Fig. 2 the pin 12 is placed cross-wise so that it may engage the free ends of the tie. It Will be apparent that as the bifurcated portion hooks over the button I, there can be no downward movement of my device and, therefore, any downward pull of the knot of the tie will. be resisted by the pin l2. Thus it will be noted that my device operates in the manner above described.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
A necktie retaining device made of a single blank of material and embodying in its construction two wide end portions connected by a narrow medial portion, one of the said end portions having a hooked-shaped pin secured thereto, the other of said end portions being bifurcated so as to form a button engaging slot, said blank being bent on its medial portion so as to form a U shaped device, the extremities of the bifurcated portion being tapered to allow the passage of a button therethrough to the button engaging slot.
