'1 0 all whom it may mace-m5 'Be it known that I, EARL H.Big'oriiinnv,
a citizen of the llnitedState's', res: j g New York,'in the countyof'N'ew Yorkfla'ndf State of Sew York, have invented certain,
new and useful Improveinent's'inCombined- Necktie Slips and Collar Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This in'venti'onrelates to a combined necktie o-r cravat slide or guide and collar button and has for its primary object to permit the necktie or cravat to be adjusted and slipped about the collar preliminary to tying or making the bow.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an extremely simple and effective device for use in connection with astarched or soft collar and particularly adapted for attaching the collar to the neckband including a necktie or cravat disposed between the folds of the collar permitting the necktie to be easily adjusted preliminary to making abow.
Another object of my invention is to produce a device of the character above specified which is extremely simple in construction, highly efficient in operation and use, practical, durable, capable of being manufactured of different kinds of material and particularly of celluloid, flexible metal or their equivalent, as well as other compositions at an extremely low cost whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.
To enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention that they may embody the same in the various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, drawings depicting a preferred form have been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawings, similar reference characters denote cor responding parts throughout all the views, of which,
Figure 1 is a rear view of a collar, a portion of the outer fold being broken away to show a necktie slip and collar button in position.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a further section taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 designates the shirt, 6 the outer fjfoldrafncli the'finner fold; of'afsea or of a stare-lied" collar asishown by 1 of the drawings, Between the ihneii ajn'cl' outer folds of: the collar, there is providedfa,Qiiecktie I slipv designated in its entiretyby f flu-- meral 8, which may bef'offpliable,or'flexible 1materialfsuclr as celluloidf light rnetali,,or 'their quival nt; which slip isgsliape'd to conform to the curvature of theco-llar. "The bottom edge of the necktie slip is formed to provide a plurality of spaced guide ways 9 which not only permit the inner and outer folds of the collarto be separated, to allow the tie to slip, but also retains the necktie while it is being drawn into adjusted position preliminary to tying the same. In other words, the guide 9 prevents the necktie from slipping down to the bottom "of the inner and outer fold of a collar, which, of course, usually prevents the adjustment of the necktie about the same when it is desired to make a bow tie. j
The band or slip 8, which is of substantial width is provided with a buttonhole engaging means formed integral therewith, which is formed by an offset 12, which is continued downwardly as indicated at 13, forming a U-shaped loop 14 so that the free extremity 15 extends in parallelism with theportion 13 of the loop and consequently permits the same to engage the edge of the neckband of the shirt as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawings. It will further be seen from this constructiiom that the major portion of the band 10 is substantially in the same plane but somewhat offset from the U-shaped loop 14 so as to give sufficient clearance whereby the said loop may be passed through the buttonhole of the collar and at the same time, provide the means to permit of the easy adjustment of the necktie 10. Furthermore, it will be seen that the U-shaped portion 14: engages beneath the lower edge of the neckband of the shirt and consequently tends to resist. the separation of the collar and the neckband due to stretch. or pull at the rear portion of the collar band.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore, reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the class described con1- prising a segmental band of substantially wide flexible material having guides on its lower edge for a necktie or cravat, and means formed with the said band adapted to pass through the buttonhole of a collar for re- 7 taining the latter to the neckband of a shirt.
2. In a device of the class described comprising a segmental band of substantially wide flexible material having a plurality of spaced guides on its lower edge to accommodate a necktie or cravat, and means formed integral with the band extending inwardly of the band and adapted to pass through the buttonhole of a collar for retaining the latter to the neckband of a shirt.
3. In a device of the class described comprising a segmental band of substantially wide flexible material having a plurality of outwardly rolled spaced guides on its lower edge to accommodate a necktie or cravat a U-shaped loop formed integral with the band and disposed inwardly of its inner face and adapted to pass through the buttonhole of a collar and engage the lower edge of the neckband of a shirt whereby the said collar is held by said neckband.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
