i 0 all whom it may concern I y Be it known that I. TELL ll. S'Mrrrn'a citizen of the United States and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktiesgof which the followine'is a specification.

My invention relates to neckties of the ready-made type, and has for its obje t to provide a novel construction and arrangement of neckband and fastening means whereby the necktie is secured in place upon the wearer. Other more specific objects of the invention will appear more fully from the description hereinafter. I

Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof; 3 is a view illustrating the tie in combina tion with a collar with which it may be worn and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional View of one end of the neckband.

The illustrated example shows the invention applied to bow ties for which it is particularly adapted although it is to be understoodthat the improved neckband and fastening means may also be used to advantage with other types of neckties.

The improved neckband and fastening means comprises a band 10 which may be constructed wholly of elastic material as shown or be made otherwise elastic in any conventional manner, said band preferably being provided with the wellknown slide 11 for adjusting the length thereof. At one end the band 10 is provided with a hook 12 which, as shown, may have a slot 13 for slidably accommodating said band as shown in Fig. 1. At its other end the band 10 is attached to a fastening device comprising a loop 14 and a member 15 extending in oifset relation to said loop and having an open recess 16, said member being connected with the loop 14 by a transverse web 17 as shown in Fig. 4; in the preferred construction the loop 14, member 15, and transverse web 16 comprise a unit stamped from sheet metal and bent into proper shape. While the compound fasteninr; device 14-15 may be at tached to the neckband 10 in any convenient manner it is preferred to secure it in place by means of metallic'eyelet or rivet 18 as shown. This difficulty is entirely overcome with the present improvement As shown in Fig. 3 the tie may be temporarily combined with the collar o by placing the body 19 over the end edge 7) thereof, then stretching the band 10 around the collar and engaging the hook 12 with the other end edge 0 thereof. In this way the tension of the band 10 draws the knot 20 against the edge 6 and the hook 12 against the edge 0 and firmly holds the parts in combination with thecollar a; the latter may'thus be freely manipulated and attached to the shirt in the customary manner without paying any attention to the tie which is automatically held in place upon said collar during this operation. When the attachment of the collar a to the shirt has been completed the tie is drawn away from the edge 6 and the hook v end for 12 is engaged with the loop 14; either previously to this connection of the hook 12 and loop 14: or subsequently thereto, as desired, the recess 16 of the member 15 is forced over the collar button at the front of the neck band. The tie is now securely fixed in place against shifting in any direction, either circumferentially of the collar orupwardly thereon. and shown herein, the operation of combining the tie with the collar and the attachment thereof to the. shirt is reduced to the simplest form and is effected without any effort other than that required to combine the collar with the shirt.

Vairous changes in the specific form shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

I claim: I 1.- A neckband for ties comprising a band, a compound fastening device at one end of said band, consisting of a loop andan off-set recessed member, a rivet for connecting said fastening device with said band and a hook slidably mounted upon said band at its other detachable connection with said loop. A neckband for neckties provided with a unit fastening device on one end thereof, the said fastening device consisting of a flat loop, a flat member forming an integral continuation of said loop in a lengthwise direction of said unit, said flat member being offset relatively to said loop in a plane parallel with the surface plane thereof and being provided with a transverse recess open at the'peripheral edge of said member.
