I ATTACHMENT FOR THE NEGKBANDS 0F SHIRTS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, MIKE VANsoN, a citizen'of Bulgaria, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for the Neckbands of Shirts, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new. and useful improvements in neckbands for shirts and has for its principal object to provide an attachment whereby the necessity or use of independent collar buttons to connect the ends of the neckband together and to attach. an ordinary collar thereto are dispensed with, the attachment being very simple and efficient.

A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment for neckbands of a shirt of the above mentioned character, which will securely fasten the free ends of the neckband and simultaneously provide a means for extending through the overlapping portions of an ordinary collarthrough the button holes provided therein whereby the collar is secured on the neckband.

A still further'object of the invention is to provide a neckband attachmenowhich is of such a construction as not to cause any discomfort to the wearer of the shirt on which the attachment is used and will hold an ordinary collar in position on the neckband of the shirt without any danger of the same becoming accidentally opened at its connection to the neckband of the shirt.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the above mentioned character, which is strong and durable, inexpensive and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention showing the same in a locked position with an ordinary collar associated therewith. I

Figure 3 is a detail view of the metallic spring pad forming a part of this invention.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a shirt of the type which is open at its front in the manner well known in the art. The usual neckband 2 is provided thereon and as the same is of the well known construction, a further detailed,description of the same is not thought necessary for the purposes of carrying out the objects of the presentinvention. Secured at its inner end adjacent one of the ends 3 of the neckband is the elongated strip of textile material designated generally by the numeral 4. Suitable stitching such as shown at 5 is provided for securing the inner end of the strip of textile material to the neckband in the manner clearly shown in Figure 2 of the draw-- ing and as is clearly illustrated the strip is adapted to extend through the button hole opening 6' provided in the end 3 of the neckband 2.

.The elongated strip of textile material 4 is further provided in its intermediate portion adjacent the neckband 2 with an eyelet 7 and the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described. Secure-d to the outer end of the textile strip 4 in any suitable manner such as by providing a loop is the metallic spring tab 8 which may be preferably formed of metal although it is to be understood that any other suitable material may be substituted therefor for the purposes of carrying out the objects of the present invention. The outer extremity of the tab 8 terminates into a tapered point 9 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawing.

The textile stripv 4-is of a suitable length so as to permit the same to be conveniently handled when it is desired to fasten the ends of the neckband together for the purposes of attaching an ordinary collar thereon. To this end it will be noted that the tab 9 will be adapted to extend through the button hole 10 provided in the opposite end 11 of the neckband 2 in such a manner as to have the end 11 of the neckband 2 fit closeup against the outer face of the end 3 of the neckband and so that the eyelet 7 will be disposed beyond the outer face of the end 11 of the neckband.

After the textile strip has been drawn through the button hole 10 in the manner above described; the buttonholes ofthe ordinary collar 12 may be passed over the spring tab 9 and the textile strip 4 unt l the overlapping portions of the collar-12 are dis-V. posed on the inner end of the textile strip in .such a manner as tojhave the eyelet 7 arranged on the; outside of the outermost end of the collar. -The spring tab 8 then has its pointed portion 9 threaded in the eyelet 7 until the notched portion 13 of the spring metallic tab engages the inner peripheral edge of the e elet in the manner clearlydllustrated in igure 1 of the; drawing.

With the arrangement as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, the spring metallic tab 8 will securely hold the overlapping ends of the collar in a closed position as well as to hold the overlapping ends of the neck band the overlapping portions of the collar. If

desired, asimilar arrangement may be pro vided at the rear or back portion of the neck band 'for engagement with the button hole provided in the rear or back portion of the collar when the latter is attached to the neck band.

It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, that by providing an attachment of the character above described to the neckband of a shirt, the necessity for the use of independent collar button's as are taching an ordinary collar'to the shirt, is

dispensed with and furthermore, the parts constituting the present attachment are arranged in such a manner as not to cause any discomfort to the wearer of the same and will not accidentally become open.

The simplicity of my device furthermore enables the same to be readily and easily removed from engagement" with the button holes of a collar and neckband respectively, and will at all times be in such a position as to enable the person to readily place the collar attaching tab in proper position.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the" spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I A shirt having a neck band provided 'with\" button holes, a strip of flexible material passing through one of the button holes and attached to the neck band, an eyelet passin transversely through the strip and space from the neckband, a continuous loop carried at the free end of the strip, said loop being formed from wire and having a circular end portion, and a pointed end portion and inwardly bowed portions provided at the sides of the loop between the circular and pointed end portions thereof.
