Description

June 5, 1951 H. s. GILMAN 2,555,432
TIE SLIDE FOR COLLARS Filed NOV. 2, 1949 I N VEN TOR. jizry (j 04mm.
Patented June 5, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in shirt construction.
The novel objects of the invention are directed to the provision of a shirt which is provided with means to hold the collar against curling upwardly in combination with means for guiding a tie.
In a broad way the novel features of the invention are accomplished by the provision of straps secured at its upper end to the neck band of the shirt which extends unattached therefrom so as to have lower ends underlie the collar adjacent the points thereof with the lower ends of said straps and inner plies of the collar secured to the front portion of the shirt.
All of the above objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts thereof, as will fully appear by a perusal of the description below and by various specific features which will be hereinafter set forth.
To the above cited and other ends and with the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a plan View of the collar and front portions of a shirt having the features of the invention associated therewith; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
The front portions of a shirt are shown at 2 which have a neck band 4 secured thereto in the regular manner.
Overlapping front portions 6 of the neck band are secured together by a button 8 and button hole It).
A collar [2 has an inner edge secured to the neck band 4 in the usual manner and has forward points M which overlie the front portions 2 of the shirt.
As is common the collar is formed from secured together inner and outer plies of material It and I8.
Straps 29 are provided which are formed from flexible material and are preferably relatively narrow.
Upper ends 22 of the straps 29 are secured to the neck band as by stitching 24. Said straps extend from the end portions 22 and are not secured to the front portions of the shirt.
Lower ends 2'6 of the straps underlie the points of the collar and the inner ply l6 of collar. The ends 26 of the straps are secured together by stitching indicated by 28.
In this manner the points of the collar are firmly secured to the front of the shirt so that they will not curl and are maintained in flat condition.
A tie may be passed between the straps and collar or between the straps and front portions of the shirt.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms Without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A shirt construction comprising in combination, a circular collar band provided with a button and button-hole on opposite ends thereof, a shirt front secured to end portions of said band and extending downwardly from the lower edge thereof, a collar secured to the upper edge of said band having front point portions extending downwardly over said end portions of the band and shirt front with adjacent inner edges of said point portions arranged in spaced downwardly diverging relation and terminating in points, elongated strap members beneath said point portions disposed inwardly of and adjacent the said inner edges thereof, upper end portions of said strap members secured to upper and lower edges of said band and lower extremities thereof secured to said shirt front and points of the collar to secure the points to the shirt front and having intermediate unattached portions below said neck band cooperating with said shirt front and point portions for the passage of a tie between the said strap members and shirt front or between said strap members and point portions of the collar.
