UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COLLAR-BUTTON SUBSTITUTE FOR SHIRTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1922.
Application filed November 3, 1920. Serial No. 421,473.
To all lio/wm t may con-cern: y
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Soovnonrni, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey', have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Button Substitutes for Shirts, ot which the following is a specilication.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of means for readily mounting` a collar upon the neck band or a shirt and dispensing with the use of a collar button or stud at the back of the neck of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is the provision or' a collar and shirt band structure that is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and whereby the employment of any metal adjacent the back of the neck of the wearer is obviated and a comfortable detachable connection between the collar and the band ot' the shirt is provided.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a 'shirt band structure adapted Jfor mounting a collar thereon with out bringing any of the attaching means in contact with the neck ot the wearer and providing a comfortable neck band with the collar readily detachably mounted thereon.
With these general object-s in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinatter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing', and in which like reterence characters designate Correspondinpr parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing`r Figure 1 is a top plan view ot a neck band of a shirt with a collar detachahly connected thereto,Y parts being` broken away and a portion or' the neck tie illustrated in position,
Figure 2 is a perspective view ot a collar having the att-aching' member thereon.1 and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the outside of neck band portion oi ashirt provided with rny invention.
Referring more in detail to the dra wing,4 a neck band 10 upon the shirt 11 is provided of substantially the usual form with a collar button 12 or similar securing means provided through the overlapping forward ends of the band 10, although I prefer to add a protecting flap 13 upon the inner end of the band for preventing the button 12 from contacting the neck of the wearer. Spaced transverse slots 15 in the back 14 of the band 10 are provided. t'or the reception ot the -inturned free ends 16 oit a tab or strip 17 secured substantially centrally at the back of the inner ply 18 of a collar such as 19.
The tab ends 16 are spaced apart a distance substantially equal to the spacing of the slots 15 so as to be readily inserted through the slots trom a point outwardly ot the band 14 as best illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. A protecting strip 20 is secured within the rear portion of the band 14 inwardly of the slot 15 for overlying` the ends 16 when the collar 18 is in position upon the shirt. The lower edge 21 ot the band 14 is preferably unattached to the shirt 11 adjacent the slots 15 to permit the ready insertion of the lingers beneath the rear por` tion ot the band 14 to assist the ends 16 in mounting the collar 1S upon the band 14, although the edge 21 may be stitched to the shirt 10 throughout the lengt-h ot the band 14 is desired.
lThe tab 17 is secured to the inner ply 18 of the collar preferably by stitching 22. The position ot a neck tie 23 .within the collar 19 when positioned upon the. neck bandy is shown in Fig. 1, and while the form of the invention herein set forth is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it will nevertheless be understood that minor changes ,may be made therein without departing' from the spirit and scope of the invention.
lVhat is claimed as new isz- In combination with a` shirt, a neck band thereon having' a rear portion tree from the shirt at its lower edge with spaced transverse slots, collar adapted 'for wearing with the shirt. a separate tab member centrally secured inwardly ot' the rear portion of the collar and comprising a substantially elongated strip oit Yfabric stitched intermediate its ends tothe collar, the extreme free ends oit the tab being projected inwardly for movable positioning` throughr the slots with the collar in varying position upon the shirt band.
In testimony whereof I- aix m signature.
ABRAHAM SCOVltONEK.
