COMBINED TIE AND FASTENER.
asses.
Application filed February 9, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM LERNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brook lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Tie and Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to wearing apparel and particularly to an improved form of tie and fastener and has for an object to provide a construction wherein the tie may be held. in proper place by a collar button without danger of the tie rotating or moving out of correct position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined tie and collar button wherein the tie is provided with a socket having a polygonal opening for receiving a button with a similar formed head and a flat shank whereby the tie is held against rotation while the button acts in the combined capacity of a collar button and a support for the tie.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of a shirt and collar with a tie and fastener embodying the invention shown applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view through Figure 1 on line 2-2, the same being on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of a fastener or body embodying certain features of the invention. 7
Figure 4t is a sectional view through Figure 3 on line i -4t.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the button shown in Figure 3 on an enlarged scale.
Figure 6 is a rear View of the necktie shown in Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a transverse sectional view through Figure 5 on line 7-7.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a shirt of any desired kind and 2 a collar of any desired kind. The collar 2 is held in place by collar buttons as is usual but instead of providing an ordinary collar button at the front a special button and tie support 3 is provided. This button and support or fastener is formed with a base 4, a flat tapering shank 5 and a Specification of Letters Patent.

head 6. The head 6 is formed with a round portion 7 and a polygonal-shaped portion or section 8 having its sides inclined inwardly toward the round portion and forming there with a shoulder. The head in the drawing has been shown as a square but it may be formed with more or less sides. The head 6 is adapted to fit into a socket 9 secured in any desired manner to the rear part of the how 10, said bow being of the usual construction of bow-ties except that it is not provided with a guard but only with the socket 9. This socket is formed with a polygonal opening 11 for receiving the head 6 into which it snaps when the tie is placed in position as shown in Figure 1. When the button 3 is placed in position in the collar and neck band the fiat shank 5 prevents the same from turning which also acts to prevent the tie 10 from turning when once placed in position, whereby the tie is correctly held without the use of a guard and, consequently, without having the usual stiff appearance which is found in ties having guards.
That I claim is:
1. A combined tie and fastener comprising a tie having a polygonal socket on its inner face, and a button adapted to pass through the button hole of the neck band of a shirt and the button holes of a collar and snap into the socket of the tie, said button consisting of a base, a flat and tapering shank, the shank being of uniform thickness throughout its length and the portion thereof which lies in the button hole of the neck band being of a width to prevent it from turning therein, and a polygonal head terminating in a round portion and provided with a polygonal portion having its sides inclined inwardly toward the round portion and forming therewith a shoulder, the poly onal portion of the head fitting snugly in the socket of the tie and preventing the turn ing of the tie thereon.
2. In a fastener, a button comprising a base, a flat tapering shank, and a head having a round terminal portion, and a poly onal portion having its sides inclined in wardly toward the round portion and form-
