CHARLES A. B. FLENNIKEN, OF WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS.
TROUSERS-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed July 24, 1915. Serial No. 41,652.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. B. FLEN- NIKEN, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Watertown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to protectors for trousers, and has for its ob'ect to provide an improved construction 0 the same that readily may be adjusted in position, and yet will not interfere with the ordinary use of the trousers. This I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers, showing my improvement applied thereto in dotted outline. Fig. 2 is a detail view of my improved protector. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of a modified construction. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the fly of a pair of trousers,' showing the modified construction in Fig. 3 applied thereto.
In the said drawing, referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the reference numeral 1 denotes a pair of trousers, having the usual waistband 2, and button fly 3.
M improved protector comprises a body ortion 4 of textile material, and a depend- '1ng curved portion 5 of rubber or other suitable waterproof material attached thereto, as shown. It will be observed that said depending portion 5 is curved so as to follow the line of the fly 2, and thus bring the waterproof portion 5 at the point where it will effectively protect the trousers, as will be understood. I have shown at 6 a safety pin for attaching the body portion 4: to the waistband 2, though the same may be attached in any other suitable manner;
In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown a modified construction, not only of the protector itself, but of its attaching means. Thus, with this form I employ a separate strip 7 of material, which is disposed beneath the rear edge of the buttonhole strip 8 of the fiy 3, and is provided with a series of fastening elements 9, such as the male member of a glove fastener. These fastening elements project through the buttonhole strip 8, and are adapted to engage complemental fastening elements 10 on the protector. Said protector comprises a body portion 11, like the portion 4 of Figs. 1 and 2, a lower end 12 of material similar to 11, and an intermediate section 13 of rubber or other waterproof material. It will be seen that said protector may be attached in position for use by means of its fastening elements 10 engaging the elements 9 on the strip 7, the whole being retained in position by the engagement of said fastening elements through the rear edge of the buttonhole strip 8.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A trousers protector, comprising a body portion of textile material, and a lower curved portion of waterproof material attached to said body portion and adapted to cover the crotch and to extend over the front wall of the trousers when its side edge is alined with the trousers fly, and means for securing said body portion detachably to the waistband of the trousers.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of July, 1915.
