Description

A g. 26, 1952 s. F. STEIN 2,607,922
FLY CONSTRUCTION FOR GARMENTS Filed June 10, 1948 INVENTOR Patented Aug. 26, 1952 UNITED, STATES PATENT, ,OFFICEF:
V I t 2,607,922
FLY CONSTRUCTION FojRGARM Ts f Samuel F.- Stein, MiltomPa'. Application June 10, 1948, S erial No. 3:2;28ll V 3 Claims; (01. 2345 1 Myinvention relates to mens and boys trousers and more particularly to trousers. that 1 are equipped with a zipper closure at the fly opening'.
of the same-material-as the trouser material, the
hand flypiecebeing lined with a fly 111-; inglga'lhesefly pieces are-attached to :the respectiye-adjacentedges of complementary fore-,
ments of one of the strips are made to fit intothe spaces between the elements of the other strip and thus the elements become fastened with one another by means of a V-shapedslider being moved upwardly and'the zipper is closed, and by moving thesliderin" the opposite direction' the zipper isopen. The free longitudinal edges of the zipper tapes respectively are attached to the fly pieces and the latter are connected with the respective fore parts of the trousers.
The fly piece which is attached to the right hand fore part of the trousers is lined with a fly lining which is located closest to the body of the wearer when the trousers are being worn. The fly lining referred to is subjected to a great deal of moisture from perspiration or other causes, as well. as to the effect of chemical substance that may be present at that particular point of the trousers. The zipper tapes become hardened and the metal elements corrode to such an extent that the zipper ceases to function as a fastening device for the trouser fly.
Instead of the customary moisture absorbent fly lining I provide a fly lining that is moisture proof, which lining may be formed of a zelantreated material or otherwise made water-repellent so that the zipper tape and the metal elements will not be affected by any moisture and the zipper will serve as a fastening device for a long duration of time.
The trousers referred to above are generally made of woolen, rayon, cotton or mixed fabrics not processed for water repellency or moisture resistance.
My invention is applicable to fastening devices other than slide fasteners or zippers, which may be subjected to the eifect of moisture, and while I am describing the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that the same is sus- 7 customary 1 fly construction of trousers comprises right and left fly pieces usually formed having a moisturerepellentjouter liningapplied ceptible' of modification m various forms with:
outdeparti'n'g' from the spirit and scope of my iii 'vention', 'I desire "that what I claim' be" given broad interpretation and .be I limited only; by the prior art'pertaining thereto? v In order to illustrate my invention referenc is had to "theaccompanying sheet of drawings l I i. h Figure 1'' illustrates the upper portion of a pal of trousersturned inside out showing the'ffl closure comprising two fly members inoverlap ping relation, the overlapped inner fly member' theretoj 7 Figure 2 illustrates the upper portion of the'" right hand forepart blank of the' trousersffa'ce up, comprising one'of thefzipper tapes placed' near thefront edge thereof, ready to be attached thereat} i Figure 3"illustrates," face up, the" inner fly-flap blank formed of 'the'samei'material as the *troii m'ateriah" I r Figure e illustrates, face ,u a'blankf rbrthe outer lining that is 'moisture repellent; for the. purpose of my invention? Figure 5 illustrates the completed inner fly ,member comprising a moisture repellent outer lining; and

In the drawings: It represents the upper portion of a pair of trousers turned inside out; ll represents 'the'in-,
ner fly member composed of fly-flap material l2,
which is the same material as the trouser'material Ill, and is covered with a moisture repellent lining l3. This moisture repellent lining is situated closest to the body of the wearer when the trousers are worn. Ha designates the outer fly member overlapping the inner fly member I 1; l4 represents a portion of a fore part blank, face up, which forms the right hand side of the trousers. One of the zipper tapes [5 is placed near the edge I 6 of the fore part blank l4, ready to be attached thereto, as shown in Figure 2. 15A represents one of the zipper tapes attached to the outer fly member Ila.
To produce fly member I I, blanks l2 and I3 are placed face to face and stitched together at their respective edges I1 and [8 by a line of stitching extending down and including the lower curved outer edge of each. Blanks l2 and I3 thus united are then turned with the faced side of each out and the inner fly member H is thus produced.
