LEG CLOSURE IN CHILDS GARMENT Filed June 24, 1954 IN VEN TOR. GRETA M. U'ONSSON ATTORNEY United States Patent O LEG CLGSURE IN CHILDS GARMENT Greta M. Jonsson, Minneapolis, Minn.
Application June 24, 1954, Serial No. 438,911
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-270) This invention relates to a snow and rain protector garment and especially to a waterproof pants-like garment to be worn by children.
Heretofore childrens protector garments were provided with cuff constructions which permitted moisture to penetrate or seep over the top of the childrens boots or shoes causing Wet feet.
The protector garment of this invention is provided with two cuffs for each limb portion, one cufi overlying the other cuif. Each cuff is a separate element, and each cufi is provided with a slotted portion which is closed by a conventional slide fastener means. Both cuffs extend over the top of the boots or shoes of the children wearing the protector garment, with the outer cuflf extending below the outer end of the inner cult thus providing added protection for keeping moisture out of the childrens footwear. The outer cuff is also fitted to the leg of the wearer by a conventional strap and buckle means.
An object of this invention is to provide in a protector garment, two separate overlying cuifs for overlapping the top of boots or shoes for preventing moisture penetration into the boots or shoes of the wearer of the garment.
It is another object of this invention to provide in a protector garment, a cuff construction having two independent panels so constructed that the outer panel is provided with greater length than the inner panel for aiding in preventing moisture or water penetration over the top of footwear.
it is a still further object of this invention to provide in an outer protector garment, a cufi construction having two independent panels with their surfaces uninterrupted save for a slotted portion in each of the panels with each slotted portion provided with a slide fastener means.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof, and will be pointed out in the appended claim.
in the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the outer protector garment with the cuffs shown over the top of boots.
Figure 2 is a rear view of a portion of right limb of the garment disclosed in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear view of a portion of the right limb of the garment with a portion of the outer cuff broken away, disclosing the inner cuff.
Figure 4 is a rear view of the right limb of the garment, showing the outer panel or cuif in its open position.
The illustrative garment shown in Figure 1 comprises trousers provided with limb-encircling portions 1212.
An inner cuif or panel 14 is stitched or otherwise secured as at 15 to the outer end of each limb portion 12. A relatively wide elastic band 16 is formed on the outer end of the inner cuif 14, with the band 16 extending completely around the outer end of the cuff 14. The elastic band 16 permits the end 14 to snugly fit difierent "ice size legs of persons. A longitudinal slotted portion 18 is provided in the inner cult 14 adjacent the rear side of the cuff 14 to facilitate the passage of the limb of a wearer through the cufi. The slotted portion 18 is closed by conventional slide fastener 20.
An outer overlying cutt or panel 30 is stitched or otherwise secured as at 32 to the outer end of each of the limb portions 1212 of the protector garment 10. The outer cuff 30 is provided with a longitudinal slotted portion 33 substantially in alignment with the slotted portion 18 in the inner cufi 14 to facilitate the passage of the limb of a wearer through the outer cufi. The slotted portion 33 in the outer cuff 30 is normally closed by a conventional slide fastener 34.
The outer end 36 of the outer cuff 30 extends below the outer end 17 of the inner cuff 14. The outer end 36 of the outer cuff 30 extending below the outer or bottom end of the inner cuif 14 and extending over the top edge of the boot or other foot-wear provides a Water tight joint and is added means for preventing the seepage or penetration of water over the top of the shoes or boots of a wearer of the garment.
A strap 38 is secured to the outer cuff 30 on one side of its slotted portion 33 and a buckle 40 is attached to the outer cuff 36 on the opposite side of slotted portion 33 in cuff 30. The strap 38 and buckle 40 provide means for snugly fitting the outer end of the outer cuff 30 to the leg of the wearer.
The elastic band 16 of the inner cuif 14 readily adapts itself to the shape of the leg of the wearer and the slide fastener 20 can be easily operated to close the slotted portion 18 in the inner cuif 14. The outer end 17 of the inner end 14 fits tightly over the top edge of a boot or the like to provide a water tight joint.
The slide fasteners 34 and 20 of the outer cuff 30 and the inner cuif 14 provide means for easily opening and closing of the slotted portions in these cufIs. It can be seen that the protective garment 10 can be easily and quickly donned by children.
The protective garment 10 is made of any suitable waterproof material. The protective garment 10 is designed to be worn over snow suits or other clothing of children. The double layer cufi construction extending over the top edge of childrens foot-wear provides means for keeping the childrens feet dry when exposed to rain or snow.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
As an article of manufacture, a garment having a limb encircling portion having a free outer end, an inner cufi secured to the outer end of the limb encircling portion, the inner cuff having a longitudinally extending slotted portion to facilitate the passage of the limb of a wearer through the inner cufi, slide fastening means for closing said slotted portion to draw the outer end of the inner end around the limb of the wearer, an elastic band secured to the outer end of the inner cull for snugly holding the outer end of the cuff tightly around the limb of a wearer, an outer cuff secured to the limb-encircling portion and completely overlying the inner end, the outer cuff having a longitudinally extending slotted portion in substantial alignment with the slotted portion in the inner cuff to facilitate the passage of the limb through the outer cufi, the outer end of the outer end extending below the outer cufi around the limb of the wearer, a buckle and a strap means secured adjacent the outer end of the outer cufi for snugly circumposing the outer end of the outer cufi on 5 2,697,224
the limb of the wearer.
