Description

A ORNEY 1' IVENTOR Haw/ Alikr ahnd H. AIDENLAND URCATED TRUNK -SKIRT Dec. 21, 1954 GARMENT AND PORTION A COMBINATION BIF CONVERTIBLE BODICE F-iled June 7, 1951 United States Patent 6 COMBINATION BIFURCATED TRUNK GARMENT AND CONVERTIBLE BODICE-SKIRT PORTION Harry Aidenland, New York, N. Y. Application June 7, 1951, Serial No. 230,329 1 Claim. (Cl. 271) The present invention particularly relates to a combination bifurcated trunk garment and convertible bodice-skirt portion.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view showing an alternative form of shorts with a body-covering portion or combination bifurcated trunk garment and convertible bodiceskirt portion which may be used in connection with the slacks extension of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a front perspective view of the alternative form of the shorts garment or bifurcated trunk garment of Fig. 1 with the body-covering portion or bodice-skirt portion in lowered position forming a short skirt or apron.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view upon the line 33 of Fig. 7.
Fig. 4 is a transverse horizontal view upon the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, there is shown a shorts construction M with an alternative body-covering portion N, which may also serve as a short skirt or combination bitrunk garment and convertible bodice-skirt portion, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The shorts or bifurcated trunk garment M are provided with the slide fastener arrangement for carrying slacks extensions, if desired.
As is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, both the shorts or bifurcated trunk garment M and the upper body-covering portion N are provided with slide fastener openings 100 and 101. The upper body-covering portion N has a shirred or pleated construction, as indicated at 102, extending from adjacent the breast-line 104 down to the waistline 105.
At the top of the body-covering garment N there is provided a channel 106 receiving the tie string 107. This string 107 may be pulled above the breast, as indicated at 108 and then tied into a bow at 109.
As is shown in Figs. 2 and 3, when the body-covering portion or bodice-skirt portion N is lowered, it will form a short skirt with an ungathered, scalloped edge 110 which may have a finishing or edging strip 111 stitched thereto.
The waist-encircling portion of the garment, as indicated at Fig. 2, may have a belt portion 112, which is formed by a folded strip of fabric 113 stitched at 114 to the edges 115 of the shorts portion M and the body-covering portion N. This belt portion 115 will be inside the garment when the portion N is used as a body-covering portion, as indicated in Fig. 1.
It will be noted in Fig. 2 that the belt portion 112 is provided with loops 116 which may receive a belt.
When the garment is used as in the position in Fig. 2, the tie string 107 is in loose position instead of in its tied position as shown in Fig. 4.
At the end of the belt portion 112 there may be provided the snap eye construction 117.
The slide fastener construction 0 may be used for the attachment of a slacks or trowser extensions.
The garment of Figs. 1 to 4 is particularly useful in forming a combination shorts with an attached short apron or skirt or a combination breast-covering portion and shorts construction or combination bifurcated trunk gari nent and convertible bodice-skirt portion as shown in This combination garment may be made of light-weight material or even for fall or winter wear, where heavierweight materials are desirable.
Referring particularly to Fig. 4, it will be noted that in the preferred construction the garment is so designed that the edges 150 at the fly opening will contact, as indicated in Fig. 4, when the snap fastener 117 is closed, as indicated in the position shown in Fig. 7, with the string or tie strip 107 in loose condition or loosely tied into a bow. In this position the slide fastener 101 is desirably closed up to adjacent the snap fastener 117.
The fabric of the shorts garment N will then form a double pleat extending both forwardly, as indicated at 153 and rearwardly as indicated at 154, to cover the slide fastener opening 101, and this will cover it from exposure of the fly opening 100.
The forwardly and rearwardly extending double pleat l153-;154 will be at the side of the garment as shown in The garment construction as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 particularly lends itself to sports utilization.
While there has been herein described a preferred form of the invention, it should be understood that the same may be altered in details and in relative arrangement of parts within the scope of the appended claim.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, what is claimed is:
A combination bifurcated trunk garment and convertible bodice-skirt portion attached to the lower edges of a waistband, the said bodice-skirt portion in lowered depending position constituting a short skirt over the bibodice-skirt portion having port it in its elevated position, trunk and the convertible bodice-skirt having slide fastener fly openings in alignment with a side opening in the waistband, the bifurcated trunk References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS
