Description
Aug. 4, 1942. E. KOPYTO 2,292,227
SLIDE FASTENER ARRANGEMENT FOR BATHING SUITS Filed Nov. 22, 1940 j JNVENTOR Z'Zzezer Kyylo Y ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 1942 suns msrumm ARRANGEMENT non BATHING sm'rs Eliezer Kopyto, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to Jerome Kopyto, New York, N. Y.
Application November 22, 1940, Serial No. 368,518 1 Claim. (01. 2-67) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bathing suits, and has more particular reference to a slide fastener arrangement by which the bathing suit may be removed-from beneath the clothing of a wearer.
A bathing suit constructed in accordance with this invention may be worn beneath clothing when dry and may be removed at the beach and leg openings to the top edge of the trunks.
It is further proposed to provide slide fasteners securing the free section to the other section of the body encircling portion andprovided with control slides, and means for operating the slides exteriorly of trousers, or other clothing worn over the bathing suit.
More specifically, it is proposed to provide cords attached to the control slides and extending to the edge of the trunks, which may be pulled to open the slide-fasteners.
Another object of the invention is the construction of'a device as mentioned which is simpie and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and and with a pair of leg openings I3 and a crotch portion I 4 at the bottom edge thereof. Said body encircling portion II has a free section Il extending from the crotch portion l4 and the leg openings 13 to the top edge I2 of the trunks l0.
Slide fasteners I! extend along the side edges of the free section II' and secure the free section to the other section of the body encircling portion ll. These slide fasteners l5 have control slides It at one of the said edges of the trunks l0, namely as illustrated in Fig. 1 at the bottom edge thereof. Cords II are attached to the control slides l6 and extend to the other of the extended endsof the cords l'l. This means comprises rings or loops 18 attached upon the material of the trunks through which the cords l'l pass. The free ends of the cords II have support rings I9 by which they may be conveniently gripped and pulled.
accompanying drawing, and to the appended of the front portion of the suit shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 isa fragmentary enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of a bathing suit constructed in accordance with a modified form of this invention.
The bathing suit shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive comprises a pair of bathing trunks l0 having The trunks III are provided .along the top edge l2 with loops 20 for a belt. A customary pocket 2! is mounted upon an area of the trunks. The customary athletic support 22 is mounted upon the inner face of the free section ll of the body encircling portion. The cords i'l extend along the interior face of the trunks. The rings is are mounted upon the interior face of the trunks near the to edge thereof.
The slide fasteners I5 comprise a pair of hook strings l5 mounted, along the adjacent edges of the free section ii and the other section of the body encircling portion II. The stringers l5"- are secured in position with lines of stitches 25. The stiflenin'g elements 23 are engaged beneath stringers l5 and are held in position by the stitches 25.
The body encircling portion I I is open at one side Ii which is normally closed with a slide fastener 26. This slide fastener has a control slide 21 by which it may be opened.
In Fig. 5 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in several respects. The trunks III are provided with'a belt 28 having elastic pora bodyencircling portion II with a to edge I2 tions 29 at certain areas. Moreover, the free section n of the body encircling portion In is tapered at the sides from the bottom upwards.
The slide fasteners iS-extend along the inclined sides of the tapered portion .of the free section H". In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and like parts are identifl, by like reference numerals.
The operation of the bathing suit is as follows:
When the suit is off the slide fastener 28 is open and the slide fasteners l5 are closed. In this condition the suit may be engaged on a wearer. A person steps across the crotch l4, adjusts the trunks into position, and closes the open side ll with the slide fasteners 26.
When the suit is wet it may be removed from beneath clothing in thefollowing manner: Apair of trousers or other clothing may be donned. Then the rings I! are gripped and pulled so that the cords l'l pull the control slides I6 opening right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
In a pair of bathing trunks having an open side extending from its top edge to its bottom edge and closable by means of book fasteners operable by a control slide normally located adjacent one of said edges in its closed position, a cord having one of its ends attached to said control slide and the otherv of its ends projected into the vicinity ofthe other edge of said bathing
