2 Claims.

This invention relates to new and useful irn-V provements in bathing trunks.

More specifically, the invention proposes the construction of a pair of bathing trunks which may be quickly and easily put on and removed from ones body beneath ones street clothing. That is, with the construction contemplated, when one goes swimming it is possible to put on the bathing trunks before removing ones street clothing, after which the street clothing may be removed to permit ones taking a swim. After the swim, and when the trunks have dried sufliciently it is possible to put on ones street clothes and then remove the bathing trunks.

Still further, it is proposed to characterize the bathingtrunks by a body strip which is adapted to be wrapped around ones body from the back to the front in a manner to partially enclose the same.

Another object of this invention is the provision of an extension continuing from the central bottom edge of said body strip in a manner to be extended upwards along the front of the wearer between the ends of said body strip.

As a still further object of this invention it is proposed to provide fastening elements upon the adjacent edges of said extension and the ends of said body strip in a manner to permit these portions to be connected together to hold the bathing trunks in position upon ones body.

As another object of this invention it is contemplated to provide means for releasably holding the body strip about the waist of a wearer so that the wearers hands are free to properly adjust the extension in position between the edges of the body strip.

Still further the invention contemplates an arrangement by which the extension portion may be engaged over edge areas of the body strip to slightly vary the size of the bathing trunks.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. U

The bathing trunks, according to this invention, includes a body strip I0 for engaging about the back of a wearer and around the sides to the front thereof. This body strip may be constructed of vany desired material such as: lastex, rubber, knitted material, or any other desired material. The top edge of the bathing trunks is provided with a waist band IIJa by bending inwards-a portion of the top edge of the strip I0. This bent in portion is maintained in position by means of lstitchesll engaged therethrough. The body strip Ill is of a length so that when it is engaged about the wearers body the ends thereof will be slightly spaced from eachother at the front of the wearers body. n

A means is provided for closing the space betweenl the adjacent ends of the strip when engaged around the wearers body. This means comprises an extension I0b from the center of the back bottom edge of the body strip I0. The construction permits the slide controlled slide fasteners to be separated when the control slide is moved to the bottom position.

The top edge of the supporter I2 is materially wider than the top edge of the extension member III, and means is provided for attaching the top corners of the supporter-I2 to the adjacent faces of the ends of the body strip I0. This means comprises snap fasteners I8 mounted upon the top corners of the supporter and which are adapted to be engaged with complementary snap fasteners I9 mounted upon the top edges of the ends of the body strip III.

The supporter I2 is provided with sides converging from the top down to the bottom and the projecting edges of the supporter overlie the flaps I6. These projecting edges and the flaps I6 act to completely encase the back face of the slide fasteners to prevent them from coming in direct contact with ones flesh.

Means has been provided by which the end portions of the body area III may be secured about the waist of a wearer tentatively, s that the wearers hands are free to engage the snap fasteners I8 and I9 and properly adjust the support I2 and the extension I0". 'I'his means includes a strap 3l mounted upon the upper edge of one of the end portions of the body strip vII) and provided with a fastening element 32, such as a snap fastener, cooperative with a complementary fastening element 32' on another strap 33 mounted upon the upper edge of the other end of the body strip.

In Fig. 1 the bathing trunks have been illustrated fully opened. These trunks may be engaged upon a wearer by placing the body strip I0 around the back of the wearer, then engaging the end portions of the strip I0 around the sides to the front of the wearer. The

32 and 32 are then engaged with each other so that the straps 3I and 32 hold the bathing trunks in position. 'Ihe wearers hands are now free to lift up the extension portion IIJb and to properly flatten out and adjust the support I2. The support is then secured in position by the engagement of the fastening elements I8 and I9. The edge portions of the adjacent edges of the ends of the body strip and the extension IIIb are then connected together. This is accomplished by placing the bottom end portions of the hook fasteners I4 into proper relationship with each other and then moving up the fastener slides to cause the hook fasteners to engage each other. When the slide controls reach their uppermost positions vthey are guided beneath the straps 3I and 33, whichalso serve as covering elements to cover over the control slides.

In the modified form of the inventionA illustrated in Figs. 3 to 6 inclusive, a pair of bathing trunks have been illustrated which is substantially identical to the form illustrated in Figs. l and 2, distinguishing only in the fact that auxiliary lines of hook fastener stringers I4e are secured on the front faces of the end portions of the body strip I0 spaced slightly from the edge portions thereof, which are provided with the hook fastener stringers I4,

The left hand line of stringers I4* is provided with a control slide I4'. Normally, the pair of trunks may be worn in the condition illustrated in Fig. 3 in which the stringers I4' are inoperative. However, if the trunks become too loose or if a person of smaller size wishes to wear the same, they may be worn in a different manner utilizing the stringers I4. The new position of the various parts is illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6.

In Figs. 5 and 6 the end portions of the body strip I0 are shown connected together by the inter-engagement of the stringers I4m upon the.

This is accomplished by engaging together the stringers II with the stringers I l which are extended along the side edges of the body extension III". The support I2 in this form of the invention is disposed in between the body extension Illb and the front area of the body strip l0. l

The hook fastener I4m at the left of Fig. 3 is controlled by theslide Ilf, while the other fastener at the right of Fig. 3 is controlled by the slide |42. The slide I4x is arranged so as to maintain a position upon the adjacent end portion of the body strip III when this fastener is opened. The slide Mil is arranged to maintain a position upon the body extension II!b when this hook fastener is opened. With this arrangement the slide Hf may be used to secure together the stringers Ilm upon the ends of the body strip III. The slide I l may be utilized to secure together the stringers I48L and I4e at the right. The slide Ilx is utilized to secure together the stringers I 4* and I4e at the left.

In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and similar parts may be identified by like reference numerals.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desired to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A pair of bathing trunks, comprising a body strip for engaging about the back of a wearer and around the sides to the front, an extension from the central portion of the bottom edge of said body strip for extending forwards acrossvthe Y ments mounted-on the sides of said extension while the fastening elements on the ends of said body section are joined behind said extension to reduce the operative diameter of said trunks.

2. A pair of bathing trunks, comprising a body strip for engaging about the back of a wearer and around the sides to the front. an extension from the central portion of the bottom edge of said body strip for extending forwards across the crotch and up the front of a wearer between the ends of the body strip, cooperative fastening elements on the adjacent edges of said extension and the ends of said body strip for connecting together said extension and body strip, and auxiliary fastening elements mounted slightly inwards from the edge portions of the ends of said body strip, whereby said auxiliary fastening elements may be connected with the fastening elements mounted on the sides of said extension while the fastening elements on the ends of said body section are joined behind said extension to reduce the operative diameter of said trunks, said cooperative fastening elements and said auxiliary fastening elements comprising complementary slide controlled hook fasteners.
