HUNTING GARMENT Filed Aug. 6, 1954 IN V EN TOR.
WMM L Wm A rToR/VEY United States Patent Oiice 2,762,054 hiaten-ated Sept. 11, 1956 HUNTENG GARMENT William I. Smith, Perrysburg, ho, assigner to The Hettrick Manufacturing Company, Toledo, Ohio, a corporation of Ohio Application August 6, 1954, Serial No. 448,345
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-227) This invention relates to sports garments but more particularly to a garment especially adapted for hunting and fishing and an object is to produce a new and improved garment of this character which can be inexpensively manufactured; is equipped with a game pocket conveniently supported in the back of the garment and which is positioned to cover the mouth of a pocket, thereby protecting the same from the elements; constitutes a combined trouser and upper body covering portion having conveniently positioned detachable fasteners which opens the garment readily; which in general resembles an overall; and has the unique features of construction hereinafter described.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear and, for purposes of illustration but not of limitation, an embodiment of the invention is shown on the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front plan view of the garment;
Figure 2 is a rear plan view of the garment;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view of one of the trouser legs showing the strap or tab for tightening it to the leg of the wearer.
The illustrated embodiment of the invention comprises a sport garment which is more particularly adapted for hunting purposes although it is also usable for fishing. It constitutes an overall which can be quickly slipped on by the Sportsmen and is of any suitable textile fabric having water repellent properties. As shown, the overall has a trouser portion which is one piece with an upper body covering portion 11. The upper body covering portion is open down lthe front to the crotch and these portions are readily connectable by a slideable fastener arrangement generally known as a zipper and indicated at 12. Adjustable length shoulder straps 13 are sewed to the upper end of the upper body covering portion 11 adjacent the upper edges of front and rear bib members b and b1 which taper upwardly from the lower edges of arm openings o at their sides.
On the back of the upper body covering portion in the region of the seat portion is a pocket 14 and overlying the upper portion thereof and covering the mouth of the pocket 14 is a game pocket 15 which is made up of a length of waterproof fabric folded upon itself with the free ends uppermost and secured to the upper portion of the upper body covering portion at the back by sewed seams 16. The sides of the game pocket are open except for lthe lower portion which on each side is closed by a gusset 17a. In the region of the upper end of each gusset 17a is a snap fastener 17 for engagement with its mating portion on the back of the upper body covering portion. Thus the game pocket is normally held down against the back of .the upper body covering portion and adequately covering the pocket 14.
At the front of the upper body covering portion 11 are two relatively sizeable pockets 18, one on each side, these being suitably covered so as to keep out rain and protect the contents. On the upper portion of the upper body covering portion at the front are several cartridge receiving loops 19. As shown at the right of Figure 1 is a pocket 20 and on the ap for this pocket are portions of snap fasteners, the mating portions being carried by a sponge rubber piece 21 which can serve as a butt rest for the hunters firearms. This may be removed if desired.
On each of the trouser legs is a strap 20 which may be buttoned over to snugly grip the wearers ankles, the purpose of which being obvious.
Numerous changes in details of construction, arrangement and choice of materials may be eifected without departing from the spirit of the invention especially as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A hunting garment comprising: an overall having unitary trousers and an upper body covering portion with upwardly tapered front and rear bib members, the outer sides of said bib members forming arm openings, shoulder straps attached to the upper edges of the front and rear bib members for supporting the overall on the wearer, the front of the garment being provided with an opening extending from the upper edge thereof to adjacent the crotch, sliding fastener means securing the edges of the opening, the back of the upper body coverings portion extending entirely across the back of the wearer from one arm opening to the other, a game pocket of rectangular shape, said game pocket extending substantially entirely across the back of the jacket, a seam securing the top edges of the pocket to the back of the garment along a line substantially in line with the lower edges of the arm openings, the lower portion of the pocket extending across and terminating substantially at the hip region of the garment, the lower portions of the side edges of said game pocket being connected and the upper portions of said side edges being unconnected, and cooperating fasteners on the back of said garment and on each side of said pocket at the upper ends of the lower portion of the side edges of the pocket for releasably securing the pocket to the garment, whereby said pocket also forms a double back for the garment.
