r A. JOHNSON April 3, 1928.
Patented Apr. 3, 1928.
UNITED STATES ALFRED JOHNSON, 0E RICHFIELD, MINNESOTA.
ovEnALLs.
Application filed March 6, 1926.
My invention relates -to garments of the kind commonly known as overalls, and the object is to provide such a garment with a novel, extra large commodious pocket for carrying tools and supplies for a niechanics use when he is working some distance from his tool chest or shop room, as for instance linemen working on telegraph poles where it is necessary to have quite a. variety of tools for his work.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a so-called union overalls equipped with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the upper front part of the garment shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 in F ig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, it will be understood that my improvement belongs to the upper portion of the overalls known as the breast flap extending from the collar of the wearer down to the hip. A are the legs, B the shoulder straps, C the side openings, 5 the regular front pockets with openings 6 and 7 the back pockets with openings 8. There may also be a small pocket 9 opening at 10.
The garment is also given a re-inforcing belt-like'strip 11 to help support the several upper pockets of the front of the garment, like the pencil pocket 12. rule pocket 13, two other top pockets 14 and two larger pockets Serial No. 92,753.
15 with openings at 15, all arranged in the front member or bib-16 0f thebreast part 16-17 of the garment.
T he space between the parts 16 and 17 constitutes an extra large single pocket or pouch 18 with two openings 18 and 18". This pocket may extend upwardly to the line 19* and downward to the'line 19 where the bottom of the pocket is formed.
In said extra large pocket 18 a mechanic may carry a hammer, piiers, shears and other tools and parts in position accessible by both hands of the mechanic. The back section 16 of the garment may be made in various forms, including reducing to a mere strap across the back.
lVhat I claim is As a new article of manufacture, overalls provided with a breast flap above the belt line and shoulder straps detachably securable to the upper part of said flap, a belt seam, a bib sewed to the upper edge of said breast flap and extending to the belt seam and widened at said latter seam to provide upright openings at the edges of said bib,
and between it and the breast flap a pocket extending below said belt seam interiorly of the overall front and opening upwardly into the space between the breast flap and said bib. r
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
' ALFRED JOHNSON.
