.To all 'wwmvz't may concern:
f Be it known thatl I, MARY A. KNISELEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chey cotah, in the county of McIntosh and State of Uitlalioma, have invented new and useful Improvement-s in Maternity-Waists, of which the 'following is a specification.
@he invention rela-tes to Wearing apparel,
and more particularly to the class of ma- 1a i shape the figure should lit be deformed.
ternity Waists. l
'ifheprimary object of the invention is the provision of'a waist of this `character in "which pockets are arranged thereon for receiving pads, whereby the contour of the body of a person may be altered, so as to Another object of the invention is the' provision 'of a waist of this character in which the body of a person may be shaped so that the forni will be graceful and shapely, Whether such person be thin or stout, or (leformed to any degree of disfiguration.
A further object. of the invention is' the provisionof a waist that is adjustable to suit the wearer, thereby enabling the alteration of the figure when being worn, the waist being thoroughly comfortable when on the wearer. y
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a waist which is simple of construction and inexpensive in manufacture.
`With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangen'ient' of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully'described, illustrated :in the accompanying drawings, andpointed out in the appended claim. i
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of a waist constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear viewthercof. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4 is an opposite side view. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the hip pockets and pads.'
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1.0 designates the front section of the waist, and l1 and 12 the back'sections, respectively. rlhe lback section 12 is provided with the vusual button holes 13, in which are engaged ordinary buttons 14 carried by the otherbacr section 1T., whereby the Waist may be fastened upon a wearer. The front- Vsection :10 and back sect- ions 11 and 12 are cut' to provide arm holes 15, and also are joined at the shoulders of the ordinary stitching 16,'and at the adjacent side edges of the said front and back sec tions is formed a series of through A whereby the waistwinay be adjusted to suit the convenience oft-he wearer.
Secured to the front section 10 of the waist at points to overlie the hips of the 'wearer are pockets 19, in which are detachably held pads 20 to relieve the wearer from injury caused by the corsets when being Secured transversely to the front section 10 .of the waist at a point, above the waist line is an elongated pocket 21j, the latter eX- tending entirely across the front of the waist and vterminating at opposite sides thereof, and in which is detachably held a correspondingly shaped pad 2:2, the latter being for the purpose of filling out the figure of the wearer of the waist above the waist line.
Above the pocket 2l and secured to the front section l() of the waist at. the point of thc hust is a pocket, 253, in which is detachably held a hust pad 24, the pockets 21 and Q3 f being inedially slitted, as at 25, at their edges stitched' to the front section to pro vide eutrance'for thc introduction and reinoval of the pads therein.
Carried by the back sections l1 and 12, is a poclet 2G, the latter being connected with the said sections by` 1ne:ins of-safety pins or other fasteners 27, at its opposite ends, and in which is. dctachably held a back pad 28, the pocket QT heingcapablc of adjustment at any desirable pointI throughoutthe length of thc. back Isection to suit the convenience of the wearer in shaping the figure.
l Provided centrally of the front section 10 near thc lower edge thereof is a pocket 29,-
the latter being stitched to the inner face thereof, and in which is detachably held a pad 30, the same being correspondingly shaped to the pocket and is adapted to pre vent injury to the wearer of the waist at the pointwhere the lower. ends of thefront stays of a pair of corsets are constructed, thus obviating the rubbing of the corsets on the body of the wearer when4 the same is being worn. Of course, it is to be understood that the waist may be Worn with or without the corsets, as may be found desirable.
waist by means of' spaced eyelets 17, which are passed lacing strings 18,
tamers fixed to said bodice at the front,
sides and rearl thereof, the container at the rear of said bodice being detachable therefrom,- each of said containers being formed with an opening at the uppermost edge thereof, pads removably fitted Within and vio entirely filling the said y.containers and 4adapted. to be extracted through the openngs'therein and skirt-like pieces carried by the bodice at the front thereof and adapted to 'overhang the front container, one of said front containers bein extended throughout 15 thewidth of the bodlce and terminating at opposite sides thereof, the remaining front containers being of different sizes with respect to each other.
