Description

OVERALL SUIT Filed March 26, 1928 Patented Jan. 2l, 193() UNITED STATES Parleur OFFICE GEORGE LEROY FISHBACK AND REMER Y. MACINTYRE, OF PUEBLO, COLORADO, AS-
SIGNORS TO THE MACINTYRE-FISHBACK MFG. CO., OF PUEBLO, COLORADO, A COR- PORATION OF COLORADO OVERALL SUIT Application filed March 26, 1928. Serial No. 264,874.
This invention relates to overalls and has special reference to an overall for use by workmen requiring full covering of their usual garments front and back while permitting freedom of movement of the arms and shoulder.
Overalls for covering the major part of the usual garments of a wearer are commonly provided with front and back bibs extending well up on the chest and shoulders of the wearer respectively and heretofore the back bib has been made of the usual overall material such as denim or the like, the bibs being connected by shoulder straps which are either elastic in themselves, have elastic insertions, or have a small elastic tab or tabs on one or the other of the aprons to which the inelastic shoulder straps are connected. Any such arrangement is open to the objection that if the bib is carried well up on the shoulders at the back the clothing frequently becomes wet with perspiration and the bib as ordinarily constructed being of inelastic material pulls on the shoulders in such movements as lifting weights, swinging heavy hammers and the like and interferes seriously with these movements so that the wearer quickly becomes tired as his shoulder and pectoral muscles not only have to undergo the fatigue due to the work itself but are also fatigued by the effort to move under the binding eiect of the inelastic back bib.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of overall having a back bid so arranged as not to interfere with any of the ordinary movements of the wearer in work, the upper part of the back bib being elastic throughout and covering the wearer from side to side across the whole breadth of his shoulder.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
drawings and specifically Figure 1 is a rear View alls in use.
Figure 2 is a front view thereof.
In the invention as here set forth there is provided a pair of overalls indicated in general at 10 and having the usual front bib l1. The back of these overalls is extended upwardly to form a back bib l2 covering the middle portion of the wearers back to about the lower edge of the shoulder blades. To the upper edge of this back bib is secured by suitable stitching, not shown, an elastic upper bib section 13 of the same width as the upper part of the bib and extending entirely across the shoulders and well up thereon. At the upper corners of this bib are secured the rear en ds of shoulder straps 14 which, in use, pass showing the overover the top of the wearers shoulders and are brought down and secured to the front bib 14. While the attachment of these straps to the front bib is here shown as a permanent attachment it is to be understood that any desired means of attaching these straps to the front bib may be used. Thus under these circumstances the elastic material 13 will stretch sideways at its upper part when the wearer swings his arms forward even though his clothing may be wet with perspiration and also when the wearer stoops forward the elastic material 13' will yield vertically. Thus this elastic material, while serving to cover the back of the wearer at its upper part and while tensioning the straps 14 yet is readily yieldable to permit any desired movement of the wearer.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A pair of overalls having a rear bib covering the middle of the wearers back from side to side and provided across its upper edge With an elastic extension of the same Width as the bib and extending Well up on the Wearers shoulders, said extension being stretcha-ble in a vertical direction, said overalls having inelastic straps connected to the upper corners of the elastic section and adapted to extend over the Wearers shoulders for connection to the front of the overalls, said overalls having an inelastic front bib to which the ends of said straps are attached.
In testimony whereof We aHiX our signatures.
GEORGE LEROY FISHBACK. REMER Y. MAoINTYR-E.
