GIRDLE AND CROTGH MEMBER Filed Sept. 14, 1937 WITNESSES INVENTOR Rowland was um a l k ATTORNEYS 1 Patented Apr. 11, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,154.25: omnm mn (moron.
Rowland W. Spain, New York, N. Y., assignorof ne-half to Henry J. Tully, Plandomo Manor,
Application September-14, 1937, Serial No. 163,715
This invention relates to wearing apparel and particularly to girdles adapted for use by men and women, the object being to provide a constricting and molding girdle which may be easily put on or taken ofl.
Another object of the invention is to provide circumferentially elastic girdles with a removable or disengageable crotch member so connected that the ends thereof will stretch with the girdle body.
A further object, more specifically, is to provide an elastic girdle with an elastic flexible crotch member which may extend through part of the girdle body or may overlap the lower end 16. thereof. I
In the accompanying drawing:
- Fig. l is a perspective view of a girdle and crotch member disclosing an embodiment of the invention, the same being shown on a figure;
Fig.2- is a rear view of the girdle shown in Fig. l,
the same being shown on a figure;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the girdle shown in Fig. l; g
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through Fig. 1 approximately on the line 4-4, the same being on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the left hand part of Fig. 1 with the strap removed and illustrating the position of the slot and the elastic strap;
. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the crotch member shown in Fig. 1, the same being spread out.
.Referring to the accompa ying drawing by numerals, I indicates a girdle body and 2 a crotch member. The girdle body I is a tubular piece of .35 elastic webbing preferably appreciably more elastic circumferentially than longitudinally. However, if desired the girdle c'ould be elastic in all directions. It will also be noted that the body I tapers from the top to the bottom with a curved formation and when in use extends from approximately the crotch at the front around to the back so as ,to cover to a large extent the posterior regions and thereby mold these regions as well as the sides of the body to present a uniform round appearance. Also the front of the girdle will naturally confine and press in the lower part of the body, namely that part between the waist line and the crotch.
As illustrated in Fig. 3, thebody I is preferably much higher in the front than in the rear so as to secure the results just set forth. At a zone above the center of the front there is provided 7 a slot 3 and at a zone in the back spaced from the bottom is a second slot 4. Slits could be used although preferably a complete slot is formed and is provided with a buttonhole binding 5 as shown in Fig. 4. Arranged immediately above slot 3 is an elastic strap 6 which may be held in place by suitable stitching I and which carries disengageable fastening members 8. These are 5 shown as snap fasteners but may be buttons, hooks and eyes, or othersuitable disengageable fasteners. The strap 6 is circumferentially stretchable so'that when the body I stretches circumferentially the strap will also stretch 8.0- 10 cordingly but hold the fasteners in proper place. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the same general structure of strap is provided at the back, namely strap 9 with disengageable fasteners I0. Preferably the strap 9 is longer at the rear than at 16 the front. Coacting with the straps 6 and 9 is a crotch member 2 which is preferably made from elastic textile fabric, as for instance a, piece of knit fabric. Elastic straps II and I2 are connected by stitching or otherwise to therespective 20 ends of member 2 as shown in Fig. 6. These straps are disengageable fasteners coacting with the fasteners 8 and I0 so that the member 2 may be disengageably' secured to body I. As shown in Fig. 4, member 2 extends through the respec- 25 tive slots 3 and l and then under the crotch.
This presents a desired form of protection and also acts as means for preventing the lower part of the girdle riding up. As illustrated in Fig. 4,
it will be seen that a certain desired proportion 30 of the girdle body I extends below the straps 6 and 9 and therefore properly confines that part of the body covered by this portion of body while permitting the member 2 to function. Under some circumstances the slots 3 and 4 may be eliminated.
I claim:
A girdle adapted to extend from the waistline over the posterior region and down to adjacent the crotch of the person wearing the girdle,com-. o prising a circumferentially elastic tubular body formed with an upwardly extending arc-shaped lower edge at the front and a downwardly extending arc-shaped lower edge at the back, said body having a slot at the center of the front slightly 45 above the bottom edge and a slot at the center of the rear slightly above the rear bottom edge, the respective slots being substantially straight and extending circumfer ntially of said body; the circumferential length of the front slot being less than that of the rear slot, a strap .elastic circumferentially of said body permanently secured to the body exterior thereof above each of said slots and respectively of the same length as the slots with the lower edges of the respective straps 55 adjacent the upper edges of the respective slots, 'the lower portions of the front and rear of said a textile fabric crotch member with the rear end body riding up, said crotch member extending as wide as the length oi the rear strap and the through said slots, and disengageable fasteners front end as wide as the lenxth of the front strap,' arranged along the ends of said crotch member 5 the width oi" said ends in cooperation with said and along said straps for removably securing the 5 straps distributing the strain of said crotch memends of the crotch member to said straps. her so as to preventpuckering while preventing ROWLAND W.
