A. A. NEVEU BA'I'HING SUIT Filed Aug; 6, 1950 Patented July- 14, 1931 UNITED srAras PATENT OFFICE ALBERT A. NEVEU, OF NORTHBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE WORCESTER HITTING COMPANY, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSA- cnusmrs BATHING SUIT Application filed August 6, 1980. Serial No..473,376.
This invention relates to a bathing suit and particularly to improved fastening devices therefor.
It is the object of m invention to provide improved fastening evices for a bathing suit, so designed and constructed that they permit the suit to be worn in a number of different combinations. v
More specifically, I provide detachable shoulder straps for a bathing suit, said straps having a plurality of points of attachmentand being adapted for attachment to thesuit in various positions, in which positions they serve uite different purposes.
My invention furt er relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the'appendedclaims.
A preferred form of the invention is shown in the drawings, in which Figs. 1 and 2 are rear elevations of the suit showing the shoulder straps worn in straight and crossed positions;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation showing one of the shoulder straps removed and the other strap passing around the back of the wearers neck;
Fig. 4 is a, front elevation of thevbathing suit when worn as indicated in Figs. 1, 2 or 3;
Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the suit when adapted to sun-baths;
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of the sult when thus worn; and V Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views of the shoulder straps.
Referring to the drawings, my improved bathing suit comprises a body portion 10 to which the usual skirt and trunks are attached or formed integral therewith.
My improved bathing suit is provided with upwardly extending shoulder tabs 11 at the front thereof to which buttons 12 are secured. The back of the suit is cut somewhat low, as is the present style, and is provided with buttons 13 rather widel spaced apart.
i A pair of shoulder straps 14 are provided,
each strap having button-holes 15 at the two the suit. If difficulty is encountered in keeping the straps 14 on the shoulders, the straps may be crossed, as indicated in Fig. 2. Furthermore, one of the straps 14 may be removed and the other strap 14 may be passed around the back of the neck, with the two ends thereof secured to the two but-" tons 12 at the front of the suit, as indicated in Fig. 3. In each of these cases, the appearance at the front will be substantially as shown in Fig. 4.
When it is desired to do away with straps entirely, as for the purposes of a sun bath, one of the straps is removed from the suit, and one end of the other strap is secured to one of the back buttons 13, while the other button 13 is inserted in the intermediate button-hole 16.
This contracts or gathers the rear portion of the suit, making the suit fit snugly under the arms and over the bust and effectively prevents the suit from slipping downward. The front shoulder tabs 11 may then be folded down inside of the front ofthe suit, as indicatedin Fig. 6, making a low cut suit both at the front and back.
The tightness of the suit around the body may be varied by using one or the other of the button-holes 15, said button-holes being unequally spaced from the intermediate button-hole 16 and additional spacings may be I provided on the other strap.
I have thus provided improved fastening means for a bathing suit which is peculiarly adapted to a wide variety of uses and combinations. While buttons and button-holes are shown and described, other suitable fasfrom the ends of the strap, and said suit having cooperating means of attachment to the straps at the front and rear of each shoulder portion, the distance between said intermediate means of attachment and one of said end means of attachment being less than the distance between the cooperating means on the rear of the suit.
2. A bathing suit having a body portion, and a pair of detachable shoulder straps buttonhole being less than the distance between the buttons on the rear of the suit.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
Y ALBERT A. NEVEU.
having means of attachment to the suit at both ends thereof, one of said straps having means of attachment to the suit at an intermediate point unequally spaced from 'the ends of said strap, and said suit having cooperating means of attachment to the straps at the front and rear of each shoulder portion, the distance between said intermediate means of attachment and one of said end means of attachment being less than the distance between the cooperating means on the rear .of the suit.
3. A bathing suit comprising a body portion, and a pair of detachable shoulder strapshaving means of attachment to the suit at both ends thereof, one of said straps having an intermediate means of attachment to the suit unequally spaced from the ends thereof and said body having cooperating attaching means the distance between said intermediate means of attachment and one of said end means of attachment being less than the distance between the cooperating means on the rear of the suit, said straps being attachable to said body as straight shoulder straps oras crossed shoulder straps, one of said straps being attachable by its two ends to the frontshoulder portions of said body portion as a neck strap, and one end portion of one strap being attachable as a tension strap along the topof the back of said body portion.
4. A bathing suit comprising a body portion, and a pair of detachable shoulder straps having button-holes at both ends thereof, one of said straps having an intermediate button-hole unequally spaced from the ends thereof, and said body portion having buttons thereon at the front and rear of each shoulder portion of said suit to which said straps maybe attached by said button-holes, the distance between one. of said end buttonholes and said intermediate
