Description

1958 w. L. EHRICH 2,846,685
DETACHABLE NAIL AND SMALL TOOL APRON Fi lgd Dec. 3. 1956 Walter L. Ehrich INVENTOR. Fig. 2
United States Patent DETA'CHABLE NAIL AND SMALL TOOL APRON Walter L. Ehrich, Chebanse, Ill.
Application December 3, 1956, Serial No. 625,655
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-51) The present invention generally relates to an attachment for an article of apparel and more particularly to a detachable apron especially adapted for carpenters which may be attached to and detachably supported from a garment normally worn by a carpenter.
An object of the present invention is to provide a nail apron for carpenters which has a plurality of vertically opening pockets therein, together with means for detachably connecting the apron to a conventional carpenters garment.
Other objects of the present invention will reside in its simplicity of construction, ease of attachment, adaptation for its particular purposes and its relatively inexpensive manufacturing cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the apron of the present invention in position on a carpenters garment;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the apron per se;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 33 of Figure 2 illustrating the details of construction of the apron.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral generally designates the detachable apron of the present invention which for purposes of illustration has been shown in conjunction with a pair of conventional carpenters overalls designated by the numeral 12 which includes the usual bib 14, shoulder straps 16, and the trouser or main body portion 18 joined to the bib portion 14 by a horizontal seam 20. The horizontal seam 20 may also be employed for supporting a covering flap 22 and a tape 24 of one half of a slide fastener construction for matching engagement with the other half of a slide fastener construction which is designated by numeral 26 and which is provided with the usual tape 28. The two halves of the slide fastener construction, together with the slide 30, form means for detachably supporting the apron 10 on the carpenters overalls 12, wherein the flap 22 will cover the slide fastener construction when the apron is in position and also eliminate any possibility of the carpenter scratching or injuring his hand when obtaining articles from the various pockets in the apron 10.
Referring specifically to Figures 2 and 3, the apron 10 includes a generally vertically disposed backing member 32 reversely bent at its upper edge and secured to the tape 28 by lines of stitching 34. The lower end of the backing member 32 is reversely bent and secured to an intermediate member 36 by lines of stitching 38, with the upper edge of the intermediate member being reversely bent and also secured by the stitching 38 to the lower edge of the backing member 32. The intermediate member 36 extends downwardly and is reversely bent upon itself, as indicated by numeral 40, for forming a bottom of an upper pocket and the intermediate member then extends up- 2,846,685 Patented Aug- 1958 wardly as designated by -numeral 42 and is reversely bent .at:numeral.44 to form the upper edge of a pocket, with the outer portion 54 of the outer member 50 terminates in a reversely bent portion, all of which are secured together by stitching 56. The intermediate member 36 including the portions 42 and 48 are secured to the backing members 32 by two vertical rows of stitching 58 which are spaced apart for receiving certain articles such as a ruler or the like. The outer member 50, including the portion 54, is stitched to the intermediate member 36 by vertical rows of stitching 60 which are closely spaced for receiving articles such as pencils or the like. Extending outwardly from each bottom edge of the apron 10 is a pair of straps 62 having grommets 64 therein for attachment to the main body or trouser oprtion 18 of the garment 12, thus retaining the apron 10 in the desired position against the front of the garment 12.
With the present apron, a plurality of pockets are provided for holding nails and also pockets are provided for holding other utensils normally employed by a carpenter and the slide fastener construction provides ease of attachment and detachment, thus permitting the garment 12 to be employed with or without the apron 10.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In combination with a workmans garment of the overall type having a main body and front bib joined thereto along a horizontal seam, a depending flap attached to said seam, a tape of a slide fastener assembly attached to said seam, said flap and tape forming an integral part of said horizontal seam, a second tape of a slide fastener assembly, a slide for detachably connecting the edges of the tape together, said flap terminating below the line of juncture of the tapes and concealing the slide fastener assembly, a generally vertically disposed backing member attached to said second tape, an intermediate member attached to the lower edge of said backing member, said intermediate member being reversely folded upon itself in spaced relation to the lower edge of the backing member and extending in overlying relation to the backing member, said backing member and intermediate member being connected with a plurality of vertical rows of stitching thereby forming a plurality of vertically opening pockets, said intermediate member being reversely folded upon itself a second time and forming the upper edge of the pockets and extending downwardly below the first mentioned reverse fol-d, and an outer member secured to the lower edge of the intermediate member, said outer panel extending in overlying relation to the intermediate member and terminating below the last mentioned reverse fold, said outer member and intermediate member being interconnected by a plurality of vertical rows of stitching thereby forming a plurality of vertically opening pockets disposed below the first mentioned pockets, and an outwardly extending tab on each lower corner of the intermediate panel for attachment to the garment thereby holding the pockets adjacent the garment.
