Generically, this invention pertains to garments, and specifically it has reference to convertible" hunting coats.

In somewhat more detail, the coat comprises an upper halfhaving secured edge thereof a skirt of one piece construction. The lower half of the skirt is provided with separable closure members which are adapted to coact with compiemental separable closure members carried by the upper half of the skirt to aflord a seamless blood-proof game pocket when the skirt is in its folded position with respect to the upper half of the cost. When the skirt is in its extended or lowered position, it forms a "trench coat" and will close the front coat will be comthe lower marginal edges of the skirt so that the pletely closed from the neck to edge of the skirt.

An important object of the present invention is to provide a hunting coat with a novel blood-proof seamless game pocket that extends from one front marginal edge to the opposite front marginal edge of the coat.

Another object is to provide a hunting coat, the lower half or skirt of which is of one piece construction and which is adapted to be folded upon itself to form a seamless game pocket and also is adapted to be lowered to provide a "trench coat.

And another object is to provide a hunting coat with a game pocket which is capable oi being converted to form a "drop seat for the coat.

Yet a further object of this invention is to provide a hunting coat which can be economically manufactured and which is capable of several different uses.

With these and other objects in view, which may be incident to my improvements, the invention consists in the parts and combinations to be hereinafter set forth and claimed, with the understanding that the several necessary elements comprising my invention may be varied in construction, proportions and arrangements, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended In order to make my invention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings means for carrying the same into practical effect without limiting the improvements in their useful applications to the particular constructions which, for the purpose of explanation,

In Figure 1, it will be noted that I have shown a coat I made of a finely woven, medium weight, weather-proof thick, or similar material. The coat is provided with an upper portion 2 including front panels I, rear panels I, a corduroy storm collar 8, and hinge sleeves 6 fixed to the coat in the conventional manner. a

A skirt I of one piece construction is secured to the lower marginal edge' of the upper portion 2 by rows of stitching i. As clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2, the skirt 7 is of such length that in its lowered position it will form a coat similar to a trench coat. Sewn to the inside of the skirt 1 is a water-proof lining 9, and it is apparent from Figure 3 that the lining 9 covers substantially the total area of the skirt. While I have shown the skirt being provided with a separate lining sewn thereto, it is of course to be understood that the skirt can be water-proofed and blood-proofed in other ways such as by spraying a moisture proofing composition thereon.

The front of the upper half 2 of the coat and the front of the skirt Lure provided with a buthalf "B of the separable fastener IS. The button hole strip II and the opposite edgeof the skirt I are provided with similar separable fasteuers NC and IID. The fastener ND is adapted to engage either the fastener I30 or IIB.

As previously pointed out, an important object of this invention is to provide a seamless, bloodproof game pocket, and by folding the skirt 1 upwardly to the .position shown in Figures 4 and 5 this construction is afforded. The lower marginal edge of the skirt is formed with a reinforcing strip ll provided with spaced button holes Ii that are adapted to cooperate with a plurality of spaced buttons II carried by the lower edge of a lining Ill extending across the inside of the back, upper portion of the chest and the sleeves. When the skirt is folded to form a game pocket P, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. the lower edge I! of the skirt is attached to the lining l8 by the buttons I! and holes l-B. The fastener "B is engaged with the member "A and fastener ISD is likewise engaged with fastener "C to close the lateral edges of the pocket. The lower marginal edge of the skirt is provided with considerable fullness which is taken up near the members l0 and ll by snap fasteners 2| provided adjacent each side edge of the skirt when the skirt is folded on itself to form the game pocket (see Fig. 4)

It will be readily appreciated that this construction will aiford a game pocket extending around the inside of the cost from the button hole strip to the button carrying strip. By virtoe of the water-proof lining I and the fact that there are no stitching holes anywhere in the pocket, there can be no danger of blood from the game crmtained in the pocket seeping there- In order to permit easy access to the interior the pocket, it will be noted in Figures 2 and that the back of the coat is formed with an elmgated opening 22 which is closed by a separable fastener II of conventional construction. A half belt! has its upper edge tacked to the body of the coat, but the lower edge is left free so that the wearer of the garment may operate till: :eparable fastener to open or close the openwhen it is desired to lengthen the coat to provide a "trench coat. the fasteners ll are manipulatedtofreethesideedgesof theskirtandthc buttons I! are unbuttoned from the lower marginaledgeoftheskirt. Theskirtthenhangs in the'position shown in Figure 3, and by mapping the fasteners 20, the bottom edge of the shirt will possess the required fullness to han properly. The complemental halves of the senarable fasteners ISB and IID carried by each side ofthesk'lrtare engaged,thusenabling the coat tobeclosedcompletelyfromthenecktothe lower edge of the skirt. This construction in additlon to affording a coat of the "trench coat" type will also, by virtue of the water-proof lining l. afford a drop seat for the wearer for use in duck blinds.

The one piece skirt will give a much stronger came pocket than the customary stitched typ of pocket, and the absence of stitchin along the lowermarginaledgeoftheskirtwillgivesmooth. unbroken lines to the garment.

The front of the coat is provided with a moisture-proof. breast pocket 8! and a pair of large pockets 8i which are shown and described in Patent No. 2,180,914, patented November 21, 1939. In Figure 6 it will be noted that a plurality of shell loops 3! are disposed beneath the flap F of each pocket 3|. This construction is very handy and it does not detract at all from the exterior appearance of the pocket.

The collar 5 is shown in detail in Figures 8 and 9. This collar is of the type which can be converted to cover the neck, back of the head and ears, and since it forms no part of the present invention, it will not be specifically described.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise details of construction herein set forth by way of illustration, as it is apparent that many changes and variations may be made therein, by those skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit of the invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. A hunting coat construction comprising an upper body portion having free vertical edges and a lower marginal edge, a one piece skirt having a lower edge and lateral edges and attached to the marginal edge of the body, said skirt being water proofed on its inner face, a fastening means carried by the lower half of the skirt along each lateral edge, a complemental fastening means carri,ed by the upper half of said skirt along each lateral edge, said complemental fastening means being adapted to close the lateral sides when the skirt is folded upon itself, and additional means for removably securing the lower edge of said skirt to the body when the skirt is folded upon itself for affording a looped pocket free from seams, said fastening means at the lower half of each lateral edge of the skirt also being adapted to coast to close the front of the skirt when the skirtisin its loweredposition.

2. A hunting coat comprising an upper body member, a skirt having a lower edge and lateral edges, said skirt being afllxed to the body portion to form the lower half of the coat, means to attach the lower half of each lateral edge to the upper half of each lateral edge, additional means to removably secure the lower edge of the skirt to the body thus forming a looped game pocket, the lower edge of the skirt being wider than the body when the skirt is attached to the body, and fastening devices to take up the additional width when the skirt forms the looped game pocket, the additional width of the skirt enabling the skirt to hang properly when in its lowered position.

A hunting coat comprising an upper body member, a skirt having a lower edge and lateral edges, said skirt being affixed to the body portion to form the lower half of the coat, means to attach the lower half of each lateral edge to the upper half of each lateral edge, additional means to removably secure the lower edge of the skirt to the body thus forming a looped game pocket. the lower edge of the skirt being wider than the body when e skirt is attached to the body, and fastening devices on the lower edge of the skirt adjacent to the lateral edges to take up the additional width when the skirt forms the looped game pocket, the additional width of the skirt enabling the skirt to hang properly .en in its lowered position.

4. A hunting coat construction comprising an upper body portion having free vertical edges and a lower marginal edge, a one piece skirt for forming the lower half of the coat attached to the lower marginal edge of the body portion and having a lower edge and lateral edges, a fastening means carried by the lower half of the skirt along asaaoss lateral edge, said complementai fastening means 1 being adapted to close the lateral edges when the skirt is folded upon itself, and additional means to removably secure the lower edge of th skirt to the body when the skirt is iolded upon itself to cheat a looped pocket tree from seams, said fastoning means at the lower half of each lateral edge of the skirt also being. adapted to enact to close the fro t: of the skirt when the-skirt is in its lowered poaiion. i

A h coat construction comprising an upper body portion having free vertical edges and a lower marginal edge, a one piece skirt for forming the lower'hali oi the coat attached to the lower marginal edge of the body portion and having a lower edge and lateral edges, a water proof lining attached to the inside of the skirt and substantially covering the entire area of the skirt; a fastening means carried by the lower half of the skirt, along each lateral edge, a complemental fastening means carried by the upper half of said skirt along each lateral edge, said complemental fastening means being adapted to close the lateral edges when the skirt is folded upon itself, and additional means to removabiy secure the lower edge of the skirt to the body when the skirt is folded upon itself to effect a looped pocket free from seams, said fastening means at the lower half of each lateral edge of the skirt aleoheing adapted to coact to close the front of the skirt when the skirt is in its lowered position.

6. A hunting coat comprising a body Portion, a

strip oi material attached adjacent one of its lon gitudinal edges to the body portion forming an extension to the body portion to provide thereby a full length coat, a waterproofed lining attached to the inner face of the strip and covering substantially the entire area thereof. said strip and lining adapted to be folded upon'itseli intermediate its longitudinal edges to provide an inner and an enter ply, means to detachably secure the free longitudinal edge of the inner ply to the body portion and additional means to detachably secure each lateral edge of the inner ply to the corresponding lateral edge of the outer ply to form a game pocket free from stitching.

A hunting coat comprising a body portion, a strip of material adjoining the lower marginal edge of the body portion forming an extension to the body portion and provide thereby a full length coat. said strip adapted to be folded upon itself intermediate its longitudinal edges to provide an inner and outer ply. means to detachably secure each lateral edge of the inner ply to the correspending lateral edge of the outer ply additional means to secure the free longitudinal edge of the inner ply to the body portion to thereby form a seamless game pocket, means to permanently secure the end portions of the longitudinal edge of the outer ply to the lower marginal edge of the body portion, and releasable means for securing the intermediate portion of the longitudinal edge of the outer panel to the lower marginal edge of the body portion to provide a closable access to said game pocket.
