Description

April 23, 1963 A. J. D1 PAOLA JACKET Filed Oct. 26, 1960 INVEN TOR.

ANTHONY-[DI PAOLA ATTORNEY FIGZ JACKET 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 FIG] INV EN TOR. ANTHONYIDI PAOLA W .4770EA/EX A. J. DI PAOLA FIG.6

April 23, 1963 Filed Oct. 26, 1960 FIGS United States This invention relates to jackets. It is particularly directed to a golf jacket and the like garment.

An object of this invention is to provide an improved garment of the character described having an inner perforated lining at the inside of the upper end of the back of the garment, with a transverse opening in the back of the garment closed by slider actuated fasteners to allow air to pass through the perforations in the liner when the slider is pulled open, said liner being stitched to the back of the garment on opposite sides of the opening to cover the opening when the slider is pulled open, and said perforated liner extending up to and being stitched to the neck and armholes of the garment to provide reinforcement for the garment and to add to the appearance thereof.

Another object of this invention is to provide in a garment of the character described, a lower back panel having an upper transverse edge, a lower tape carrying slider actuated fasteners stitched adjacent said upper transverse edge, an upper back panel stitched to the neck band and arms of the garment, and having a lower end providing a flap overlapping and extending below the upper end of the lower back panel, a perforated liner stitched at its lower end to the lower tape, a gusset at the inside of said flap and stitched at its lower end to the lower end of the flap and at its upper end to said perforated liner along a line of stitching spaced above the lower tape, and an upper tape, carrying slider-actuated fasteners complementary to the lower tape fasteners, stitched to said gusset, whereby a width of the gusset overlies the perforated liner, and said flap overlying and covering and concealing said tapes and the slider actuated fasteners, when the fasteners are open or closed, and permitting the gusset and flap to pouch out sufficiently to permit free circulation of air into the garment when the slider for said fasteners has been pulled open.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment of the character described having a transverse opening in the back of the garment, with slider actuated fastener carrying tapes stitched to the back on opposite sides of the slit, and an inner liner of perforated cloth stitched to the back on one side, adjacent to one of the tapes and at its other side in spaced relation to the other of said tapes, whereby to provide a wide perforated cloth portion through which air may pass into the garment to cool the wearers back, when the slider actuated fasteners are opened.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable garment of the character described which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, comfortable to wear, easy to manipulate, attractive in appearance and which shall yet be practical and efficient to a high degree in use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction herein-after described, and of which the scope of invention will be indicated in the following claims.

In the accompanying drawings in which is shown an illustrative embodiment of this invention,

FIG. 1 is a perspective inside view of a garment embodying the invention opened up;

' atent ice FIG. 2 is a partial rear perspective view thereof, with the slider actuated fasteners closed, and with a flap covering the fasteners turned up;

FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 with the slider partially pulled open;

FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 44 of FIG. 3;

FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 55 of FIG. 3;

FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 66 of FIG. 3; and

FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 77 of FIG. 3.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a garment embodying the invention.

The garment 10 is here shown, for the purpose of illustration, in the form of a golf jacket. Garment 10 comprises front panels 11 stitched as by seams 12 to a lower back panel 13, and by upwardly and inwardly inclined seams 14 to arms 15, and by seams 16 to a collar band 17.

The front panels 11 may be attached by slider actuated fasteners 11a or in any other suitable manner.

Arms 15 are stitched as by seams 18 to said collar band 17. A collar 19 may be stitched as by seam 20 to said collar band.

Stitched to the arms 15, as by seams 21, and to the middle of the rear of the collar band 17, as by seams 22, is an upper back panel 23, the lower end 23a of which overlaps and extends below the upper end 13a of the lower back panel 13.

Panels 17 and 19 may each be of two plies of material 17a and 19a, respectively. Plies 19a are stitched together at their outer edges by seam 24.

At the armpit portions of the garment are diamond shaped gussets 25 of perforated cloth stitched to the arms 15 as by seams 26, to front panels 11, as by stitching 27, and to the lower back panel 13 as by seams 28. The upper side edges of the back panel 13 are stitched to arms 15, as by seams 29.

Stitched to the upper end 13a of back panel 13, as by seams 3t), is a lower transverse tape 31 carrying slider actuated fasteners 32. Also stitched to said upper end 13a and to the tape 31, by said seam 30, is the lower end 33 of an inner liner 34 of perforated cloth. Said liner 34 extends up from seam 30 and covers the inner side of upper back panel 23, and is stitched thereto, and to the arms 15 and to the collar band 17, by said seams 21 and 22, respectively.

Stitched to the lower end edge 23b of the lower overlapping portion 23a of upper back panel 23, as by seam 36, is an inner gusset or backing 37 for the lower end of said upper back panel. The upper edge 37a of said gusset 37 is stitched to the perforated liner 34, above and in spaced relation to the upper end 13a of the lower back panel 13, as by seam 38 to divide the liner 34 into a lower portion 39, below seam 38, and an upper portion 40 above said seam.

Stitched to the gusset or backing 37 by a transverse line of stitching 41 spaced below seam 38 and above upper end 13a of lower back panel 13, is an upper transverse tape 42 carrying slider actuated fasteners 43 complementary to fasteners 32. The fasteners 32, 43 are locked or opened by a slider 45.

It will now be understood that when the slider 45 is pulled shut, the flap 23a covers the sliders and the back of the garment is closed for warmth. The portion 40 of the perforated cloth sheet reinforces the upper back portion of the garment and also the inside of the garment looks better because of this portion of the liner.

When the slider 45 is pulled open, air may move up beneath the flap 23a and pass through the holes in portion U 39 of perforated sheet 34 to circulate air inside the jacket for comfort of the wearer. It will be noted that when the slider is opened, a wide strip or area comprising the perforated portion 39 is available for passage of air, since fiap 23a and its gusset 37 may pouch out to facilitate entrance of air.

It will thus be seen that there is provided an article in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
