PHOTOGRAPHERS JACKET 4 Sheets-Sheet 3 Filed March 27, 1957 Fig 6- 1960 JUNZO KASHIYAMA PHOTOGRAPHERS JACKET 4 Sheets-Sheet 4 Filed March '27, 1957 United States Patent PHOTOGRAPHERS JACKET Junzo Kashiyama, Tsukaguchi, Arnagasaki-shi, Japan Application March 27, 1957, Serial No. 648,885 Claims priority, application Japan August 11, 1956 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-94) This invention relates to a jacket and particularly to a jacket suitable for a photographer.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a jacket making it possible to carry out the following operations when any photographer is wearing the jacket:
Loading film in and removing it upon exposure from a camera and certain dark room operation necessary for photography and receiving accessories necessary for photography, particularly in an outdoor operation.
The principal object and other objects have been attained by providing a jacket according to the invention with a dark space bag at a suitable portion thereof, the said bag having an opening for the introduction of a device to be operated in a dark space and two bag sleeves for allowing manual operations in the dark bag.
In the embodiment of this invention, it is preferable to arrange a dark space bag on the inner side of the jacket between the outer material of the back or front sections of the jacket and the lining thereof to make the operation in the said bag convenient. The dark space bag is provided with right and left bag sleeves for allowing inserting of the Wearers hands into the said bag. The bag sleeves are constructed light-proof so as to exclude light from the interior of the bag.
The novel features which are believed to be characteristics of the present invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claim, the present invention, however, both as to its constructionand manner of operation, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which the same members are indicated by the same numerals and in which:
Fig. l is a front view of an example of this invention, in which the right front is opened.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view along the line IIII in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line III-III in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a front view of a jacket illustrative of another example of this invention.
Fig. 5 is a front view of the example in Fig. 4, in which the left front is opened.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged front view of the bag portion in the example in Figs. 4 and 5.
Fig. 7 is a front view which is the same as the view in Fig. 6, but in the state of use.
Fig. 8 is a cross-sectional view along the line VIII- VIII in Fig. 6.
In the first example illustrated in Figs. 1-3, the back section of the body of a jacket 1 is doubled or formed by an inner cloth or lining 2 and an outer cloth material 3.
A dark space bag 4 made of a light-proof cloth, having an optically non-reflective inner surface, particularly, a black inner surface, is built-in disposed in the lower portion of theback section between the cloths 2 and 3 to form a dark space or photographers bag of any suitable volume.
Each side edge of the bag is provided with an opening 7 to which is fastened a bag-sleeve 5 at its base opening so that it can be thrust in and out of the said opening 7. The free opening of each of the said bag-sleeves 5 is tightened by an elastic rubber string sewed therearound forming an elastic cuff portion so that, when a hand is put into the bag-sleeve 5, the said free opening may be tightened around the hand so as to prevent light from infiltrating into the interior of the dark space bag, it being understood that sleeves 5 communicate with the interior of the jacket. The upper portion of the bag 4 is provided with a narrow opening 8 covered by a cover cloth 9 the upper edge of which is sewn to the said bag. The inner cloth 2 is provided with an opening communicating with the said opening 8 and having a slide fastener 10 sewn thereon. In place of the said slide fastener, any other similar fastening member may be used.
When a photographer wearing the jacket as described above desires to carry out any operation in the dark space bag, the fastener 10 is first opened by putting his hand in the interior back of the jacket, the photographic device to be operated is inserted into the bag through the opening 8, and then the fastener 10 is again closed.
Next, any desirable operation is carried out in the bag after the photographer places his hands into the bag 4 from both openings 7 through the bag-sleeves 5.
The jacket illustrated in Figs. 4-8 relates to another example of this invention, in which a dark space bag 4 provided with bag openings at both of its sides is formed between the outer cloth 11 and inner cloth .12 of left front of the jacket. As clearly shown in Fig. 6, the said bag 4 is provided with such bag- sleeves 5 and 5 at both of its sides as in the case of the example in Figs. l-3 so that the said sleeves may be thrust in and out of their respective bag openings. The bag is disposed on the front section of the jacket to one side of the front opening thereof as shown.
One of the bag openings is made to communicate with a pocket-shaped opening 14 formed on the outer cloth L1 and the other is made to communicate with an opening formed on the inner cloth or lining 12, the latter opening being provided with a slide fastener 13 so as to enable one hand to be placed into the bag-sleeve through the said fastener portion after the opening thereof. A pocketshaped opening 14 is formed on the right front so as to enable the opening of the fastener 13 by hand, the hand being introduced through the said opening 14'. The upper edge of the bag 4 and the portion of the inner cloth 12 facing the said upper edge are open and at this opening is sewn a slide fastener 15, this fastener being used to open and close the said opening as necessary in the utilization of the said bag 4.
As described above, the jacket of this invention is provided with a dark space bag at a suitable portion thereof, the said bag being provided with right and left bag sleeves for operation and an opening for putting the photographic device to be operated in and out of the bag so that, when the photographer wearing the jacket of this invention takes photographs of any object located outdoors and the like, film changing and other operations necessary for photography can be easily and effectively carried out by use of the dark space bag of worn jacket without carrying a particular dark space device or dark space bag. Accordingly, the jacket of this invention is very convenient for a photographer. 1
While I have described particular embodiments of my invention, it will be understood, of course, that I do not intend the invention to be limited thereto, since many modifications may be made and I, therefore, contemplate by the appended claim to cover all such modifications as fall within the true spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim:
In combination with a photographers jacket having front and back sections of an outer material and a lining forming a body open at the front and having means for opening and closing the front opening at will, a built-in photographers dark bag in the jacket disposed between the outer front section material of the jacket and the lining thereof to obviate the necessity of employing a dark room in certain photographic operations comprising a foldable light-opaque material formed into an envelopelike element with non-reflective inner surfaces and a transverse slit to provide access to the interior of the bag, the jacket lining having a corresponding slit to provide access into the interior of the bag, closure means for selectively opening and closing the slits to make the bag light-impervious when closed, the opposite ends of the bag having sleeve elements adapted to extend inwardly for housing in said bag and when in use and provided with elastic cuff portions, the jacket having opposite side pocket openings disposed to provide communication with the sleeve elements, and the bag being disposed on a front section of the jacket to one side of the front opening thereof and provided with an opening at one end thereof to provide communication with one of said sleeves, said last mentioned end of the bag being disposed closer to the front opening of the jacket than the opposite end of the bag, and closure means for opening and closing said end opening disposed close to the front center of the jacket to provide access at will to a corresponding sleeve element from the jacket front side pocket opening opposite to the side where the bag is disposed.
