Description

Aug. 29, 1961 Filed June 16, 1959 INVENTOR.
United States Patent 2,997,719 SAFETY POCKETS FOR SPORT JACKETS Charles J. Levi, 1490 Jefferson Ave., Bulfalo, N.Y. Filed June 16, 1959, Ser. No. 820,762 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-253) This invention relates to garment construction and more particularly to a secret safety pocket structure.
A principal object of the invention is to provide one or more hidden pockets in sports jackets or other like items of apparel.
A further object is to provide a secret pocket in a jacket, the pocket having a slide fastener closure.
A still further object is to provide a secret, hidden pocket in a garment, the pocket having a slide fastener closure with an external tubular extension for holding a pencil, pen or the like.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference Will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a garment embodying the invention. 7
FIG. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on an enlarged scale taken on line 22 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is an elevational view of the garment showing secret pockets thereof in extended positions.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown in FIGS. 1-3 a garment 10 which may be a sport jacket having front panels 12, 14 and a rear panel 16. The front panels are formed with slash type pockets 18, 19 having outer slanted openings 20 and 21. Secured within the pockets 18 and 19 are rectangular secret pockets 22, 24. Each of these pockets has a slide fastener 26 with an operating slide handle 28. The slide fastener is located parallel to and close to the inner edge 30 of each pocket 22, 24'. The outer edge of each secret pocket 22, 24 is provided with a tubular looped portion 32 defining an open top compartment 34. The compartments are adapted to hold a pen or pencil P or other like elongated instrument.
The pockets 22, 24 can be tucked into the regular pockets 18, 19 to be wholly concealed thereby as clearly shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. In FIG. 3, one secret pocket 22 is shown withdrawn from its normally concealed position. The slide fastener of this pocket is then juxtaposed to the outer face of panel 12. Pocket 24 is shown in a similar withdrawn position from pocket 19 but is turned down at one corner to show the slide fastener 26 thereon. The jacket may be provided with the usual center slide fastener closure 35, at its vertical edges 36, 37.
Linings 44 may be provided for the panels 12 and 14.
2,997,719 Patented Aug. 29, 1961 These linings will form the rear sides of the pockets 18 and 19. The pockets 22, 24 are secured by stitching 46 at the openings 20, 21 of main pockets 18, 19 of the garment.
The invention is adapted for application to any conventional pocket construction for addition thereto of an auxiliary pocket which is secret since it is normally wholly concealed, and which provides a safe container or compartment for its contents since it has a slide fastener closure. The slide fasteners 26 can be arranged to open in sliding from the top down or from the bottom up as desired.
It is to be understood that one or more pockets may be provided at any desired location in the shirts, jackets or the like garments.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent In a garment having a cloth panel and a superposed lining therefor spaced from the panel, a double pocket construction comprising a main pocket and an auxiliary pocket inside the main pocket including a rectangularshaped portion of the superposed panel and lining stitched along one long edge, along the end edges thereof and being open at the opposite long edge defining the main pocket, a pair of rectangular-shaped cloth panels smaller in dimensions than the dimensions of the main pocket stitched along both long edges and along the end edges thereof, said auxiliary pocket disposed inside the main pocket, one panel of the auxiliary pocket stitched along one long edge thereof to the panel of the main pocket adjacent the open long edge of the main pocket, one panel of said auxiliary pocket having an elongated slit adjacent one long edge thereof constituting an opening for said auxiliary pocket, a slide fastener closure for said slit, and an open top tubular extension stitched to the long edge of the auxiliary pocket fastener to the main pocket.
