Description

Aug. 19, 1952 s. ZALESKI PHOTOGRAPHERS APRON Filed May 25, 1950 v INVENTOR. STELLA ZALESK/ mm. W
ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 19, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PHOTOGRAPHERS APRON Stella Zaleski, Detroit, Mich.
Application May 25, 1950, Serial No. 164,165
(or. 2-51) I 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to photographers paraphernalia and has particular reference to an apron for use by a photographer in the development of prints or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide an apron which may be worn in a darkroom and which is constructed and arranged so that the printing paper and the like are instantly accessible to the operator without the necessity of groping in the dark.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character indicated which is constructed and arranged with one or more readily accessible pockets for the retention of printing paper, film or other materials, which pocket or pockets are provided with weighted flaps which automatically close the pocket or pockets to prevent exposure to the light of printing paper, film or the like remaining in the pockets.
Another object of the invention is to generally improve devices of this character and to provide an article of wearing apparel which doubles as a protector for clothing and as a storage place for the holding of photographer's supplies during the activities of the photographer in a darkroom. V
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, reference being made to the accompanying drawings forming part of the within disclosure, in which drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary detail, in section, of part of the cover flap.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will be understood that in the embodiment herein disclosed, the reference character I generally indicates the apron which is preferably formed of a light-weight, water-proof, opaque material. The apron 1 is provided with a pair of shoulder straps 8 and 9 which are crisscrossed at the back and are provided with a series of snap fasteners 10, so that the length thereof may be adjusted to accommodate different size wearers.
Secured to the front of the apron 1 are pocket sections it and I2. The pocket section II preferably consists of two pockets HA and HB,
weighted along the edge l5 to insure a light, tight closure of the pockets. The pocket section II is secured to the apron I by means of stitching as at 16.
The pocket section I2 is likewise secured to the apron I by means of stitching, as at H. The pocket section 12 is preferably provided with four pockets, [2A, [2B, I2C and l2D, all of which are closed by means of a flap l8, which flap i8 is of sufficient length and width to completely cover the pocket section [2. I prefer to weight the edges of the flap l8, as at [9 (Fig. 2), so that the pocket section may be automatically and instantaneously closed after an article is withdrawn from either of the four pockets, l2A, I23, I20 and 12D. This obviates any possibility of the sensitized printing paper or film becoming exposed to unwanted light I prefer to line the inside of the flap ill with a water-proof material, as at 20 (Fig. 2), so that the operator may lift the flap even with wet hands without damaging the same.
In using this device in a darkroom, I prefer to use one of the pockets of the lower section for unprinted paper, and another pocket for unprinted film', and still another pocket for printed film, in order to keep them separated, yet readily accessible at all times.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A photographers apron, comprising a unitary panel of waterproof material, there being upper and lower pocket sections of lightproof material on said panel, each pocket section having a plurality of pockets therein, all of the pockets comprising each pocket section being covered with a common lightproof flap of flexible material, each flap having a waterproof lining, and each flap having weights positioned along its free edges, whereby to automatically close and light seal its said pockets upon the lifting and releasing of said flap.
STELLA ZALESKI.
