4 Claims. (Cl. 2--115) Our invention relates to a blouse, and more particularly to a slip-over blouse.

It has as its objects, among others, the pro- Vision in a slip-over blouse, which may be in the form of a shirt, jacket, or Similar body covering, of improved means providing chest covering and lapel forming flap portions that provide extra protection over the chest of the wearer in a closed position thereof, and at the same time may be opened to provide a lapel arrangement of pleasing appearance, that are of such character as to X the lapel shapes when they are opened so that the pleasing appearance may be automatically obtained upon opening of the lapels, and which are of comparatively simple and economical construction. Other objects of our invention will become apparent from a perusal of the following description:

Fig. 1 is a front View of our blouse with the chest covering and lapel forming ilaps fully opened;

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the blouse with the flaps completely closed and in overlapping relationship;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal section taken in a plane indicated by line 3-3 in Fig. 2 with the flaps closed in;

Fig, 4 is an enlarged section similar to Fig. 3 with the flaps overlapped as in Fig. 3 but illustrating the fastening means unfastened and the flaps displaced with respect to each other, to disclose more clearly the construction;

Fig. 5 is a vertical section along the center line 5-5 in Fig. 2.

Our blouse may be made of any suitable flexible fabric or the like material, preferablyv cloth, which may be readily folded and sewed by stitching, and comprises main body portion 2 having the usual sleeves 3 sewed thereto. A neck 'band and collar portion 4 is preferably provided but it is to be understood that the collar may be omited if desired. The body portion of the blouse is of the slip-over type, and consequently the front thereof is permanently closed for a substantial distance from its bottom. A pocket 6 is preferably provided at'one side-of the blouse.

In cutting' the blouse, the chest portion of body portion 2 is formed open; and we provide two separate mating chest covering and lapel forming flaps adapted to be overlapped'in closed position, and comprising an inner flap I and anouter ing; the flaps being preferably of the same material asthe body portion and vbeing foldable, In

the .construction illustrated, the collar of collar portion'4 is preferably integral with both of the flaps, but need not be so.

Inner flap 'I is preferably trapezoidal in shape having a bottom edge portion 9, an upright right side edge portion I I and an upright left side edge portion I2. In the closed position of the flaps, i, e. when they are completely'overlapped over the chest of the wearer to provide at least a double thickness of material for protection, the side edges I I and I2 are at opposite sides of the center line 5 5 and each of said edges is inclined inwardly from the top toward the center line. 'Ihel inner flap is preferably formed so that the left hand edge I2 results from folding of the inner ilapintermediate its width; while the edge II comprises two free edge parts which are stitched along inclined line I3 to the right hand side I4 of body portion 2. In this connection, it will be noted that edge I2 is permanently free of attachment to the body portion, and that the stitching I3 alsoY secures one part of a hookless fastener I6 such as a zipper, between edge II and an inwardly turned hem II of the body portion.

Bottom edge 9 of the inner flap is stitched to the lower part I8 of body -portion 2 horizontally all the way transversely across center line 5-5 by means of stitching I9; the centei1 line bisecting such bottom edge 9. Thus, by the described arrangement, inner flap 1 may be fully closed as illustrated in Fig. 2 to cover completely the chest of the wearer; and it may be readily opened as illustrated in Fig. l, namely, the lapel portion being folded over on the outside of the rest of the flap, to provide the lapel appearance illustrated in Fig. l. In this connection, it is to be noted that the attachment of the bottom of inner flap I to the body portion controls the extent of opening of the iiap to fix the lapel4 shape.

AThe outer flap 8 is of substantially the same shape and size as the inner flap 1, and comprises-two thicknesses of material stitchedat the upright left edge 20 along stitch line 2| to the left hand side 22 of body portion 2. Stitch line 2| is inclined inwardly from its upper edge toward the center line, but at the opposite side with referenceto and at the same spacing as the stitch line I3`for the inner ap; the inclination of stitch lines I3 and 2l being substantially the same. Bottom edge 23 of the outer ilap is stitched to part I 8 of body portion 2 by the same stitching I9which secures bottom 9 of the inner ap to the body portion; the bottom edge of the outer flap being secured between the bottom edge 9 of the inner flap and the body portion. Thus, the

bottom edges of both flaps 1 and 8 are secured to the body portion 2 of the shirt along the same transversely extending horizontally stitched line which controls the extent of opening of both of the flaps and fixes the lapels of such flaps in open position.

The right hand or opposite edge 26 of outer iiap 8 has substantially the same inclination in the closed positionof the ii'ap as the stitch line F3 for the inner nap, and comprises two separate edge portions which are hemmed inwardly for appearance, and between which is secured the other half 27 of the zipper fastening means by stitching and in the open position of the outer flap, edge 2G is free of attachmentl` tothe body portion, so that the lapel. may be formed. The upper'free edges 28 of both of the flaps are also provided with inwardly extending hems for sake of appearance which are stitched together.

Since inner flap 'l comprises a folded piece of material and' outer flap 8 lcomprisestwooverlying sheets of material, it is seen: that when: the aps are completely closed as-in Fig. 2; four thicknesses of material are provided for protection in cold'` or inclement weather. As previously explained, when the fastening means is opened, one neednot adjust the lapels when they are-unfolded, as the lapels may merely be turned outwardly, andthe attachment off the lower edges of both of the aps across the: center line in the manner described) automatically'controls the extent of opening' of the flaps to fix the lapel shapes.

Although we preferably employ a .so-'called hookless fastener or zipper as the-fastener means, it is to be understood that any otheriform` offastening means which is openable in the manner described, such as buttons or snap fasteners, may be employed inplaice of the'zip-per.

Weclaim:

1. A slip-over blouse comprisingV a main' body portion; an inner chest covering and lapel forming iiap having a bottom and two spaced upright' side portions, one of. said side portions being secured to said body portion atone'side` of the center line of said body portion, the opposite side portion being unsecured to said body'portiomand the bottom being secured. to said body` portion across said center line; a mating outer chest covering and lapel forming flap alsohaving. a bottom and two spaced upright side portions', one of said. side portions of said outer i'lapbeing secured to said. body portion at the opposite sidel of said center. line, the opposite side. portion of said outer flap being adapted to. be free of` attachment to saidl body portion in an open position of said outer flap, and the bottom' of said outer iiap being secured' to said' body' portion across said center line adjacent the bottom' of said'inner iiap; thelaps beingadapted to overlap in a closed position to provide a chest covering of atleast two thicknesses of material; and'openablefastening means for securing said opposite side-portionV of said outer flap to-said body portionadiacent the secured sideA portion of* said inner flap; the attachment of said* bottoms of said iiaps across saidcenter line controllingthe 4 extent of opening thereof to fix the lapel shapes when said flaps are opened.

2. A slip-over blouse comprising a main body portion; an inner chest-covering and lapel-forming flap of separate material having a bottom edge and two spaced upright side edges, one of said side edges being stitched to said body portion along a line spaced from one side of the center line of saidbody portion, the opposite side edge being unsecured to said body portion, and the bottom edge being stitched to said body portion across said center line; a mating outer chestcovering and lapel-forming flap of -separate material also having a bottom edge and two spaced upright side edges, one of said side edges of said outer flap being stitched to said body portion along a line spaced from the opposite side of said center line, the opposite side edge of said outer Hap being adapted to be free of attachment to said body portion in an open position of said outer iiap, and. the-bottom edge of saidv outer flaprbeing stitched to said bodyportion: across said' center line adjacent the-bottom edge of said inner flap; the iiaps beingfadapted' to overlap in: a closed position to provide a. chest covering; of'at least two thicknesses ofmaterial; and openable fastening means for securing said opposite side edge of said outer iiap-toxsaidbody portion adjacent the seWed side edge of said inner flap; the attachment' of said bottom edges of said aps across saidcenter line controlling the. extent of' opening thereof' to. nx the lapel. shapes when saidv flaps'- are opened;
