GARMENT FASTENING MEANS Filed April 8. 1948 INVENTOR. af/f5 5x7/VZ Patented Apr. 17, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,549,592 GARMENT FASTENING MEANS Louis Ganz, Lynbrook, N. Y.
Application April 8, 1948, Serial No. 19,659
1 Claim.
This invention relates to garments and more particularly to fastening devices therefor.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fastening device on a coat or the like garment whereby the coat will be fastened tightly at the front of the wearer so that there is little opportunity for the rain, wind or cold to enter the garment and so that the garment will be prevented from blowing open so as to cause any discomfort to the wearer and thus the fastener prevents drafts and the coat from spreading.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a fastening device for coats or the like which is adapted to keep the front of the coat from spreading, which is of simple construction, easy to adjust when removing or putting on the garment, inexpensive to manufacture, insures better nt of the garment, rand efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a coat which is open and wherein the fastening device is discon-y nected.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the coat with the fastening elements drawn together and partly closed.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on line 3 3 of. Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, I represents a coat having the usual buttons ll adapted to be connected with button holes I2 at the top of the coat and wherein there is provided inside of the coat, hookless fastener elements I3 and I4, having a slide I5 adapted to connect the fastener elements together in the manner as shown in Fig. 2. The fastener elements are sewed beneath the buttons li, and to the interior of the coat. The fastener element I3 may be sewed with lining Il to the coat body. The fastening element lll is sewed within the edge of the coat body which is extended beneath the button side of the coat. A'lhe fastener lll is connected as indicated at I8 at a location removed from the lining I9.
After the coat has been placed on the individual, the slide I5 will be connected between the fastener elements i3 and I4 in the manner shown in Fig. 2 and drawn downwardly to close the bottom portion of the coat. This will provide a tight connection between the sides of the coat and will give added comfort and warmth to the wearer by sealing the garment against wind, rain or cold which may tend to force its way thru the front of the coat.
In order to remove the coat, the fastener slide I5 is merely pulled upwardly to disconnect the fastener elements I3 and I4. The buttons II would then be opened or removed from the button holes I2 and the coat can be removed from the wearer in the ordinary manner.
While the description has been made in connection with a coat, it will be understood that the arrangement can be used with dresses or other garmentswhere it is desired that a tight fit is effected and that the arrangement be such that the connection between the sides of the garment can be quickly and easily effected.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A coat construction having front panels adapted to overlap one another to bring the front panels about the body of the wearer, the overlapping panel comprising an inner facing strip adjacent the edge thereof and an inner lining extended thereunder, fastener elements on the underneath panel and spaced from the edge thereof, said fastenei` elements being located at the top of the panel, cooperating fastener means on the other panel adapted to engage the fastener elements whereby to hold the panels over vthe chest of the wearer, a slide fastener element connected to the edge of the panel having the fastener elements spaced from the edge thereof and immediately therebelow, a second slide fastener element for cooperation therewith connected to the opposite panel spaced from its edge thereof and inwardly of the fastening means thereupon, each of said fastener elements comprising engaging teeth combined with a tape member by which the element is attached to the garment, the enga-ging, teeth of the second slide fastener element facing inwardly of the coat opening and the tape member being secured between the facing member and outer panel, said slide fastener elements adapted to be closed by a slide acting from the top of the slide fastener elements and moved downwardly, said slide fastener elements adapted to secure the coat panels together over the front of the wearer and to seal the same together at that region thereof so as to prevent the lpassage of air between the overlapped front panels of the coat.
