Description
1954 R. J. PANTZKE COLLAR AND FRONT GARMENT ATTACHMENT Filed Nov. 8, 1962 INVENT OR FIG.4.
United States Patent 3,158,872 CGLLAR AWE FRGNT GARMENT ATTACHh/IENT Roieita Janice Pantzi-ie, 731 153th Bismarck, N. Bait. Filed Nov. 8, 1962, Ser. No. 236,336 2 Claims. (Ci. 2--115) This invention relates to clothing and garments; more particularly, the invention relates to neck garment attachments worn beneath V-neck dresses, sweaters and other womens garments having low neck lines, in lieu of blouses and the like.
Garment attachments have been provided in the past such as dickeys and the like; however, many of these have had a tendency to slide or shift about the neck of the wearer, causing irritations and soreness to the neck, from the movement, and have not been entirely satisfactory.
It is an object of this invention to overcome these aforementioned deficiencies and to provide a novel collar and front garment attachment which will maintain itself securely in place while being worn.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a novel collar and front which may be used as a dickey with womens apparel having low necklines, as well as other types of womens garments, and which may be inexpensively produced and manufactured.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a novel collar and front for womens apparel having shoulder extensions to underarm loops to secure the attachment in place while being worn.
Further objects and advantages will become apparent as the description proceeds and when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of the novel collar and front attachment illustrating the shoulder extensions and the underarm loops;
FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the novel attachment;
FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 33 of FIGURE 1, illustrating the manner of securing the underarm loops to the shoulder extensions;
FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of the attachment as worn by a person, and with a modified tapered front edge;
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary view of the novel collar and front illustrating elastic underarm loops in one of the modified forms of the invention, as attached to one of the shoulder extensions.
FIGURE 6 is a fragmentary illustration of novel collar and front showing the modified elastic underarm loop as attached to the other shoulderextension.
FIGURE 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along line 7-7 of FIGURE 6, illustrating in detail the manner of securing the elastic loops to the shoulder extensions.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises a cloth collar and front attachment which may be used as a dickey having a collar with a shoulder extension formed by front and rear panels, with the rear panel being shorter in height than the front panel and with underarm loops depending from the panels at each of the ends of the shoulder extensions, and with the shoulder extensions and underarm loops maintaining the collar and front securely in place.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, FIG- URE l discloses the garment attachment invention It}. The garment attachment may be made of cloth material of various types. The attachment 29 has a right front cloth panel 21, and a left front cloth panel 22, each having straight lower edges 23 and 24. The front panels over lap along their inner edges 25 and 26, and are secured together by three buttons 27, 28 and 29, which are sewn ice to the panel 22 and pass through three button holes 30, 31 and 32 in the right panel 23. Each of the front panels have tapered upper edges which are sewn to a rear cloth panel 33 along lines 34 and 35, and form shoulder extensions for the garment attachment. The back cloth panel 33 and front panels 22 and 23 have a central opening 37 to which a cloth collar 38 is sewn. With the unbuttoning of the buttons 27 through 30 separating the front panels and allowing access to the central opening so that the attachment may be attached about the neck of the wearer.
The cloth back panel 33 and the cloth side panels 22 and 23 are sewn together along the collar line in a conventional manner. The cloth collar 38 may be constructed in a variety of shapes and styles.
Attached to each of the shoulder extensions 39 and 49 are a pair of strip portions or endless loops generally referred to by numerals 41 and 42, which are folded longitudinally to form side portions 43 and 44 as illustrated in FIGURE 3; and are secured over the shoulder extensions along their upper portions 45 and 46 to provide a border for the shoulder extensions.
The lower portions 47 and 48 of the endless loops 41 and 42 have their side portions 43 and 44 sewn together along lines 47' and 48'.
The endless loops are also made of cloth of preferably of the same type as the cloth making up the panels and collar of the garment.
FIGURES 5, 6 and 7 disclose a first modified form of the invention wherein elastic endless loops 5i) and 51 are attached to shoulder extensions 39 and 4t? respectively in lieu of the cloth loops. The elastic loops 50 shown from the front elevational view of FIGURE 5 are sewn along the underside of the right front panel 21 and rear panel 33, with the edges of the panel folded over to form an inner edge 52 as illustrated in FIGURE 7 to provide a border for the shoulder extensions.
FIGURE 4 illustrates the novel garment attachment as worn within the cloth loops although the elastic loops would be worn in an identical manner.
The front portions of the loops 54 and 55 pass downwardly under the arm pits of the wearer and with back portions 56 and 57 extending upwardly along the back shoulder portion of the wearer. As shown in FIGURE 4, the rear panel 33 extends downward over the back of the wearer a short distance to provide additional structure to secure the attachment in place to prevent shifting of the attachment, although as shown in FIG- URE 4, does not extend downwardly as far as the front panels 21 and 22 which provide an imitation cloth front or dickey for low neck dresses and the like.
The garment is attached by opening up the front panels 22 and 23, by the unbuttoning of the buttons and slipping the arms through the loops and then positioning the collar about the neck and placing the front panels over the front of the wearer and rebuttoning the same. The front panels 23 and 24 may be tapered upwardly slightly along their lower edge as shown in FIGURE 4. I
Thus it will be seen that a novel garment attachment is provided which will serve as a dickey and provide a front collar and may be easily made, and will maintain itself secure in place while being worn;
It will be obvious that various changes or departures may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and, accordingly, it is not intended that the invention be limited to that. specifically shown in the drawing or described in the specification but only as set forth in the appended claims wherein what is claimedis: V
