Description
APRON.
APPLICATION-FILED 1 158.6. l9l4.
Patented Oct. 31, 1916.
7 INVENTOR Walter L. Hofl'lin,
9 A ORA/EV WALTER L. HOFFLIN', OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
. APRON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1916.
Application filed February 6, 1914. Serial No. 816,878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVALTEI: L. HQFELIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Apron, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referonce being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a workmans apron which may be readily put on and removed, and which will remain in proper position on the ,wearer although not buttoned or tied with strings, as is necessary in the use of all aprons with which I am familiar.
A further object is to secure the result just set forth with a. minimum amount of cloth.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a garment embodying my invention, Figure 1 is a front view and Fig. 2 is a rear view. a
1 represents the body portion of the apron, 2 the sleeves, and 3 the neckband. This neckband is continuous except at the front, where it is open, its edges forming a continuation of the opening 4: of the apron. The purpose of the opening 4 is to form with the neck opening an opening of sufficient size to permit the passage of the wearers head, and thus allow the use of a sutficiently small neck opening to cause the apron to fit closely around the neck. If a close fit is not desired the neck opening can be made larger, and the opening 4: omitted.
In order to hold the apron in position on the wearer, it is provided with a. portion 5 extending across the back of the garment from one sleeve to the other and up to the neckband. This portion 5 may be made of a one or more pieces of material permanently sewed together.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
As a means for fully protecting the sides of the wearers body, the body portion of the apron may be made to extend rearwardly on each side and is held in position by the part 6 attached to it and to part 5. This piece 6 is doubled on the bias and, therefore, forms a somewhat elastic connection between the body portion and the back 5, and lessens the likelihood of the garment binding or tearing at this portion which is frequently under strain in use.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that my improved apron will remain in proper position on the wearer without the use of fastenings of any kind, the portion 5 holding the sleeves from slipping 01f the shoulders and also holding the body portion of the apron in position at the sides of the wearers body. For protection, the opening 4 may beheld closed by a suitable fastening, if desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States is:
An apron having a long front portion and rearwardly extending continuations of said portion of sufficient width to cover only the sides of the wearers body, said apron being also provided with sleeves, a neck opening, and a relatively narrow, continuous portion extending across the back of the apron between the sleeves to hold the garment in position on the wearer. said continuous portion being permanently attached to the sleeves, and elastic portions connecting the back portion to the upper parts of the rearwardly extending continuations of the front portion.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WALTER L. HOFFLIN, [L.s.]
