To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DOROTHY ScHwnRDTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nurses Head-Dress, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a nurses headdress.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a hood-like head-dress or cap for nurses, which is particularly adapted for use in the operating room and so designed that the entire head, excepting the face, is covered, thereby preventing the hair or particles from the head falling on the sterile tables or any sterile field. Another object of the invention is to construct the cap in such a manner that it can be worn with comfort and quickly applied orremoved. Further objects will hereinafter appear.

The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the cap.

Referring to the drawings in detail, A indicates in general the head-dress or cap which in this instance is so designed that the entire head and neck, excepting the face, The cap consists of two side sections 2 and 3 which are secured together by a seam extending from the front side to a point indicated at 5 on the rear side. The front portion of each side section is cut away, as at 6, to form an opening for the face, while the rear portion from the point 5 to the lower end is left open to permit the cap to be readily removed or applied. The cap is otherwise provided with a neck-band 7 which is adapted to pass under the chin of the wearer and around the neck, and this neck-band is provided with a pair of glove button fasteners or other suitable means for securing it snugly when applied.

Secured to the rear side of the cap is a flap 9 and passing over said flap and down the open sides is a draw-string 10. The cap, including the side sections and the neckband, may be made of any suitable material and any suitable number of separate pieces which may be sewed together, as shown, and reinforced by tapes to strengthen the cap and-also to give an ornamental finish, the number of pieces employed depending entirely upon the material used and the most economical manner of utilizing same without producing too much waste.

=In actual practice, the flap 9, together .with the draw-string 10, is left open. The

cap may then be pulled over the head of the wearer, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to inclose the head and neck and particularly cover the hair. The draw-string 10 may then be pulled up tight and tied and the outer buttons 8 fastened to secure the band about the neck. The flap containing similar fasteners on its lower end is then pulled down to cover up the draw-string and any portion of the hair which may still remain uncovered, the flap being fastened to the fasteners 8, as shown. The cap thus applied covers the entire head and neck, excepting the face, thereby preventing hair or particles from the head falling on the sterile tables or on any sterile field. It is at the same time comfortable and may be quickly applied or removed by merely releasing the flap 9 and untying the draw-string 10.

I wish it understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, and that I do not wish to limit myself to the specific design and construction here shown.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A nurses head dress comprising a hood-shaped cap adapted to inclose the entire head and neck of the wearer, said cap being open in back and having an opening in front to permit exposure of the face, means for practically closing the rear opening to cover the hair of the wearer after securing the cap against removal and a flap attached to the cap adapted to be folded over said closable rear opening to form a complete closure.

2. A nurses head dress comprising a hood-shaped cap adapted to inclose the entire head, said cap being open in back and having an opening in front to permit exposure of the face, a draw-string adapted to close the rear opening and also adapted to secure the cap against removal, and a flap attached to the cap adapted to form a covering for the draw string, said flap being permanently secured at its upper end and adapted to be detachablysecuredfto'the cap at its lower end.
