TOILET-HOOD.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that. I, GRETEL J. Pass, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grenada, in the county of Grenada, State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Hoods; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,'clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to toilet hoods or masks, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device of this character which may be applied to the head and face. of the wearer, and wherein provision is made'for adapting the device to heads of different sizes.

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim; and, in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved device in closed position, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the improved device in.

The improved device is constructed of suitable fabric, preferably knitted or crocheted, and comprises a body represented as a whole at 10 and open at the upper end with the material at the upper end contracted, as represented at 11, to cause the device to adjust itself to the shape of the upper portion of the head, while at the same time leaving a sufiicient space for ventilation. At the rear the body portion is divided as represented in Fig. 2 with the edges of the material along the dividing line reinforced as represented at 12 and provided with eyelets 13 to receive a lacing represented at 14, whereby the sides may be drawn together to fit around the head while at the same time leaving space for the hair. At its lower portion the body 10 is likewise reduced or narrowed, as represented at 15, to cause the device to close around the neck of the wearer, and to still further cause the device to adapt itself to the head and face, a portion of the side opposite to the division is narrowed, as represented at 16, to cause the device to adapt itself to the chin of the wearer. The body 10 is also provided with a projection 17 to conform to the nose of the wearer, and is likewise provided with an Specification of Letters Patent.

aperture represented at 18 to permit the entrance of air to the nostrils of the wearer. Eye holes represented at 19 may also be formed in the body, and if preferred a mogh opening may also be formed as shown at Theimproved device, as before stated, is preferably formed from knitted material, and the contracted portions 11-15 will be produced in the well known manner of narrowing employed in forming the upper portions of stockings ortsocks, while the narrowed portion 16 will be produced in substantially the same manner as the heel portions of stockings or socks are produced. The nose covering extension 17 will be produced in the same manner as the thumb portions of gloves or mittens are produced when knitted. Thus the holding device can readily be constructed from one single body, and substantially in the same manner as stockings or socks are produced. The reinforcing portions 12 may be of any suitable construction, and may be sewed or knitted fast to the body, as may be preferred.

The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured and in varying sizes to correspond to the person who is to wear them, and will be found very useful for improving the complexion, or removing tan, freckles, and the like from the face.

By extending the upper contracted portion 11 above the top of the wearers head it will be seen that the air will have free access to the hair and the upper part of the head while the same will be protected from direct drafts, and the hood is thus prevented from becoming unbearably warm while at the same time there is no danger of the injurious effects which might result from direct exposure of the head.

The improved device will also be found very useful when riding or driving in cold or stormy weather, and also when working out of doors in the sun shine or wind, to protect the face.

The improved device may be worn at night without inconvenience to the wearer.

The improved device may be constructed from any suitable material or combination of materials and of any color or fanciful design.

The device will preferably be furnished to the trade without the opening for the nosmils and the eye holes and mouth opening. and these openings can he cut by the wearer to suit the face.

What is claimed is: v

The herein described toilet hood compris ing a fabric body adapted to fit oyei' the head and face and open at both ends, one end of said body being contracted to cause the same to fit closely to the head while at the same time leaving space for the hair. the other end of said body being contracted to closelyengage around the neck, one side of said body being so WOVBH as to conform to the shape of the face. the other side of said body being provided with an openin; 15 extending downwardly from the reduced upper end and through the reduced lo er end. and means for adjustably securing the edges of said opening together.
