2 Claims. (Cl. 2-50) This invention relates broadly to garments, and more specifically, to shampoo garments to be worn while the hair is being washed, in order to protect the wearers clothes from liquids applied to the hair.

In conventional practice, when shampooing ladies hair, a large cape or some similar garment is used which is draped around the body and usually extends from the neck to about the knees. Such garment is usually fitted snugly around the neck and is adapted to be used on people of various sizes.

I have discovered that make-up jackets, which may be made of cloth material such as nylon or the like may be readily used as a shampoo garment for protecting the clothes of the wearer by providing a detachable cape adapted to be quickly and easily attached to and detached from the jacket.

Therefore, an object of this invention is to provide a neat and attractive make-up jacket, which may be used as a shampoo garment, for covering the shoulders of the wearer and the body down to the waist, said jacket being quickly put on and taken off.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garment of the type mentioned including a neckband portion of soft flexible material for engaging the neck of the wearer and preventing liquid running down the neck of the person.

Another object of this invention is to provide a shampoo garment having a comfortable, flexible neckband engageable around necks of different sizes for mounting the garment in substantially sealing relation with the neck of the wearer.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a garment of the type described, which may be produced at a relatively low cost and is effective and durable in usage.

These and other objects of the invention will appear during the course of the following specification.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, while Fig. 3 is a view showing the garment mounted on the body of a person with the cape attached and disposed in the position it may assume during a shampoo operation.

The inventive thought underlying this invention relates to providing a neat and attractive make-up jacket to which a detachable water-proof cape is readily attached, preferably around the band of the neck portion, so that the jacket may be also worn and used as a shampoo garment, for protecting the clothes of the wearer during a hair shampooing operation. Preferably, the jacket includes a neck band formed of sponge rubber for the convenience and comfort of the wearer. The sponge rubber also allows for considerable latitude of adjustment of neck sizes, and due to the close adherence of such material to the neck, as a result of the soft flexible characteristics of the sponge rubber, it prevents water and various liquids used on the hair from running down the neck of the person receiving the shampoo treatment.

In the drawings, forming a part of the specification, the numeral 10 refers to an embodiment of my combination make-up jacket and shampooing garment invention, which as illustrated in Fig. 1, comprises a jacket 11 including a body portion 12 and short sleeves 13 and a collar 14 in the form of an upstanding neckband. The body portion 12, sleeves 13, and collar 14, are formed of cloth material such as that known by the trade name of nylon indicated by the numeral 15, while an outside layer of thin transparent plastic material 16 is secured thereto in any suitable manner such as by stitching. For certain uses the plastic coating 16 may be omitted. The front of the garment is divided and one side folds over the other as shown in Fig. 1, the two sections are joined together by snap fasteners 17. If desired the front of the garment may be provided with a pocket 18.

The garment thus described is adjusted to be worn and used as a make-up jacket which will readily be understood. In addition to serving the foregoing purpose, the garment may be converted into a shampoo garment by attaching thereto a short cape 19, as illustrated in Fig. l. The garment collar 14 is provided around its outside surface with snap fasteners 17 adapted to lock with cooperating snap fasteners 17 disposed along the inner top margin of the cape 19, for readily attaching and detaching the cape 19. The collar 14 comprises a body portion of sponge rubber 20 having a covering of plastic material surrounding it and secured thereto by stitching or other suitable means. The construction and arrangement of the sponge rubber 20 within the collar 14 and the manner of attaching the cape 19 thereto permit considerable variation in neck sizes and prevents liquid from running down the neck of the wearer.

A flap 24 having its inner margin secured to the collar 14 by stitching 25, as illustrated in Fig. 2, extends outwardly from and downwardly along the collar 14 for preventing liquids from entering the garment along the seam formed where the top margin of the cape 19 joins the collar 14.

Fig. 3 illustrates a manner of using the jacket 11 with the cape 19 attached while the hair of the user is being shampooed. When using the jacket for such purposes, the cape 19 is usually attached to the back of the collar 14 and the person receiving the treatment may be seated on a chair 21 while the cape 19 may be draped over a drain board 22 usually connected to a drain.

If desired the edges of the jacket 11 may be reinforced "by a trim cord 23 also attached to and retained on the garment by stitching. The garment 10 may be made of various materials other than those illustrated. The cape 19 obviously may likewise be made of diiferent materials and it may be secured around the entire collar 14. The jacket 11 may be'variously changed, used or modified to suit special requirements, all of the foregoing being within the contemplated scope of my invention.

Although the foregoing description is necessarily of a detailed character, in order that the invention may be completely set forth, it is to be understood that the specific terminology is not intended to be restrictive or confining, and that various rearrangements of parts and modifications of detail may be resorted to without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as herein claimed.

, What is claimed is:

1. An improvement in a make-up jacket and shampoo garment comprising, a jacket including a body portion, sleeves and a relatively short and thick upstanding collar formed of resilient spongy material, fastening means disposed around the outer surface of said collar, a waterproof cape provided with cooperating fastening means releasably securing said cape to said collar, said cape extending downwardly over said body portion, and a flap formed of water-proof material attached to the outer surface of said collar above the point of attachment of the cape to said collar, said flap extending downwardly from its point of attachment to said collar and being draped over at least the top portion of said cape for preventing liquids from entering the seam between the outer margin of said collar and the top margin of said cape.
