GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28, 1909.
Application filed May 10, 1909. Serial No. 495,139.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAV C. FRIED, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in what is hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide gauntlet gloves, the cuff portions of which may be readily opened to facilitate removal of the gloves from the wearer and adjustably closed for loose or snug fit over coatsleeves, said gloves being especially designed for automobile drivers.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a rear elevation of one of a pair of my improved gauntlet gloves, the cuff of same being split and provided with separable buttons of which there is an inner and outer row of heads to a single row of sockets; Fig. 2, a transverse sectional view of the cuff when closed to fit loose over a coatsleeve, and Fig. 3, asimilar view of said cuff closed to fit snug over said sleeve.
Referring by numeral to the drawings, 4 indicates the hand portion and 5 the wrist portion of my improved gauntlet gloves, the thumb portion of same being turned in out of sight. Attached to the wrist-portion of the glove is a loop 6 extending through the loop is a drawstrap 7, said loop and strap being common in the art.
The cuff S of the glove is split and the edge of the split finished off, the same as the rim of said cuff, the split and finish being extended across the wrist-portion 5 of said glove. Secured in connection with the cuff upon the inner side of same, adjacent to one edge of the split, is a row of resilient heads 9 of separable buttons, and similar heads 10 are secured in a row upon the outside of said. cuff a suitable distance from the row aforesaid. Itigid socket elements 11 of the separable buttons are attached to the cuff in a row adjacent to the other edge of the split, these sockets being engageable with said resilient heads in either row at the convenience of the wearer of the glove.
\Vhen the heads 9 and sockets 11 are engaged, the cuff will have a loose fit over a coat sleeve of the wearer of the glove, and to obtain a snug fit of said cuff over said sleeve said sockets and the heads 10 are engaged. In any adjustment of the cuff, the same may be readily opened by a separation of the buttons then holding the same closed, this opening of said cuff serving to facilitate removal of the glove from a hand of the wearer.
As best shown in Fig. 1, the split of the cuff is along the outer edge of the glove as viewed from the back and when said cuff is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, it is approximately flat, whereby as a whole it may be most conveniently carried and put on and off the hand. It is also to be observed that the split of the cuff is so positioned that its edges and the fastening devices therewith are never in the way of the wearer of the glove or his work, this being an important feature of said glove.
I claim:
1. A gauntlet glove having a split cuff provided with inner and outer fastening devices spaced apart in one direction from the split, and other fastening devices in connection with the cuff adjacent to the other edge of its split for engagement with either set of those aforesaid.
2. A gauntlet glove having a split cuff provided with an inner row of resilient head elements of separable buttons adjacent to one edge of the split, an outer row of similar heads a suitable distance from the row aforesaid, and'a row of rigid socket elements of such buttons in a row adj aeent to the other edge of said split.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Rockford. in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois in the presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAV C. FRIED.
