PATMT UFFIME.
LOUIS H. CLARK, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
APRON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 30, 1915. Serial No. 18,095.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Louis H. CLARK, a citizen of the U. S. of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Aprons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in aprons and has particular application to a nurses apron.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide an apron for use by nurses which will embody in its construction, among other features, a section of washable fabric and a waterproof section placed in face to face contact and suitably secured to one another and wherein the sections may be readily and conveniently connected and disconnected.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing;
Figure 1 is a view in rear elevation of an apron constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3is a View in front elevation of the apron.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 4.-4: of Fig. 3.
. Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a section of fabric capable of being washed and having the edges thereof suitably hemmed as at 2, and the top portion cut to nicely fit about the waist of the wearer. Placed in face to face contact with the back side of the fabric 1 and preferably of less length and width than the similar dimensions of the fabric 1 is a section 3 formed of waterproof material. At suitable points the outer section 1 is formed with button holes 5 that receive buttons6 carried by adjacent portions of the proximate face of the section 3. The outer surface of the.
section 1 is equipped with pockets 7.
Secured to the side edges of the section 1 adjacent to the upper end thereof are strings 8, while fastened to the side edges of the inner section 3 at the upper end of such inner section are strings 9 and these strings 8 and 9am adapted to encircle the waist and neck respectively of the wearer so that the apron may be securely held in position. When the apron is in use, the inner section 3 is worn against the skirt of the wearer, while the outer section 1 covers the waterproof section and a large area of the skirt of the wearer. It will be noted that the strings 9 are secured to the inner or water-proof section 3, so that if for an purpose it becomes necessary to change the outer or washable section, while the apron is being worn, the latter can be easily and quickly separated from the inner section 3 without removing the latter from the body of the wearer which is manifestly a matter of great convenience.
I claim:
An apron comprising a substantially rectangular piece of washable material having a reduced upper edge portion, and a second piece of water-proof material arranged upon one side of the washable material, both pieces of material being of similar configuration, while the water-proof material is of lesser length and width than the washable material, strings carried by the respective pieces of material, the strings on the washable material being adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer, while the strings on the water-proof material are adapted to encircle the neck of the wearer, buttons secured to the water-proof material at spaced points adjacent its' opposite longitudinal edges, and adapted to be received by button holes in the washable material to secure the respective parts together.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS I-I. CLARK.
