FOLD-COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1917.
Application filed September 1, 1916. Serial No. 118,028.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBBARD F. Hum), a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Fold-Collars, of which the following is a specification.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, whichform a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
This invention relates to fold-collars and more particularly to a fold-collar having a deep folded-over top.
The principal object of the invention is to permit the folded-over top to be made as deep at the front and back as may be desired, without causing discomfort to the wearer, or interfering with the proper fitting I of the collar over the shoulders of the wearer.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front View in perspective of a fold-collar embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view in perspective of the same.
Fig. 3 is a out flat.
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1, is the band; and 2, is the top attached to the band and adapted to be folded-over upon the band in the usual manner.
The band has the usual back buttonhole, 3, and front button holes, 4 and 5.
At the points where the band is provided with buttonholes, 3, 1 and 5, the band is made of usual height as at 6, 7 and 8, while between the points 6 and 7 and 6 and 8, the band is preferably cut-away or concaved, as shown at 9 and 10, making the band at the points 9 and 10, considerably narrower than at the points 6, 7 and 8, the band gradually increasing in width or height from the point 9, to the points 6 and 7, and from the point 10, to the points 6 and 8, forming co'nvexedportions at 6, 7 and 8.
The top, 2, is made of the full depth or width desired at its ends 11 and 12, and midway of its ends at 18.
Between the points 11 and 13, and between the points 12 and 13, the top is cut-away or concaved, as shown at 14: and 15, these concavities corresponding in location and depth with the concavities 9 and 10, in the band 1.
plan view of the collar opened topics of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner The top gradually increases in depth or width from the point 14:, to the points 11 and 18, and from the point 15, to the points 12 and 13, forming conveXed-portions at 11, 12 and 13.
The configuration of the edge of the top corresponds substantially with the configuration of the edge of the band when the top is folded over upon the band.
The band of the collar thus made is adapted to button on to the shirt-neckband in the usual manner, but the concavities at 9 and 10, in the band and 1 1 and 15, in the top, permit the collar to fit more easily over the shoulders of the wearer preventing the collar from being distorted in its position upon the neck by engagement with the shoulders of the wearer.
I am aware that it has been heretofore been proposed to provide the band of a collar with concavities similar to those shown at 9 and 10, in my improved collar, but such concavities in a band of a high fold-collar are ineffective if the top of the collar is made in the ordinary form, because if the top were made of the full width or depth at the points 1 1 and 15, the edge of the top would engage the shoulders of the wearer, and hold the band at the points 9 and 10, so far above the shoulders of the wearer that the concavities at 9 and 10, would be ineffective for their intended purpose.
By the use of my invention I am able to secure with a fold-collar having a top of any desired depth, the maximum advantages of the eoncavities, 9 and 10, in the edge of the band if the band is provided with such concavities; and the top performs its full formfitting function whether the band is provided with such concavities or is substantially narrower than said cutaway portion of the top.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A high fold-collar having a band and a folded-over top, the lower edge of the foldedover top being cut away at the sides to fit freely over the shoulders of the wearer, the middle and end portions of the top being of greater width than said cut-away portions.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of August, 1916.
