SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,341, dated March 2, 1886.
Application filed November 9, 1885. Serial No.182,209. (No model.) U
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST A. KRONES, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 isafront elevation of my improved shirt, part being broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my improvement before being applied to a shirt.
The object of this invention is to provide shirts constructed in such a manner that the sleeves will be strengthened against the strain that comes upon them when in use.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
A represents the body of an ordinary shirt, to which the sleeves Bare secured in the usual manner.
(3 is a re-enforcing piece, the upper end of which is widened and is sewed into the shoulder-seam that connects the sleeve B with the body A. There-enforcingpieceOextendsdown along the sleeve B to the wristband D, and its lower end is widened to form a placket-facing, E, to face the slit at the lower end of the sleeve. Upon the upper end of the placket-facing E is formed a tab, F, which has a button-hole, G, formed in it to receive one or the other of the buttons H, secured to the re-enforcing piece 0 and the sleeve B, according as the sleeve is to be shortened more or less. By this construction the sleeve is strengthened throughout its entire length, and a firm support is provided for the buttons H, so that the sleeve will be less liable to be torn, and will be more durable than when made in the ordinary manner.
I am aware that shirts have been made with yokes extending down over the shoulderseams and the upper parts of the sleeves, and
that sleeve-placket facings have been made with tabs at their upper ends. These constructions I do not claim, broadly; but,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the body and sleeve ofashirt, ofa re-enforcingstrip extendingdown along the sleeve from the shoulder-seam to the wristband, and formed at its lower end with a placket-facing for the slit at the lower end of the sleeve, and with a tab on the upper end of the placket-facing, substantially as herein shown and described.
