fipecification of Eetters Patent.
Application filed July 8, 1908.
Patented Sept. 2*2, 191%.
Serial No. 442,440.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that l, CLARENCE W. FerrousoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Troy, in the county of Reusselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to collars, and the object of my invention is to provide a collar in which there shall be no obstruction to the free movement of the necktie at the back of the collar. I accomplish this object by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the collar. Fig. 2 is a section along the line X-X on Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The collar, A, is provided with a standing portion, B, and a turned over portion \J. The standing portion having button holes, D, D, in the ends thereof for the purpose of securing the collar to the neck hand of the shirt. At about midway between the 'ends, on the inner side (that is the side next the neckband of the shirt when in use), on the standing portion I secure a tab, id, preferably by inserting the saline between two of the plies, a, Z), forming the standing portion, B, and secure the same therein with the same stitches that sew the lower edge of the standing portion B. The edges and top of the tab, E, are loose, and in the tab is a hutvtonhole, F, for the purpose of securing the lar button makes when it passes through the standing portion, B, as is ordinarily the case. 5
The collar, A, provided with the tab, E, can he put on much easier than the ordinary collar, because the hand of the wearer can take hold of the tah'and put it over the collar button, at the back of the neckloand and '5 press the collar button through the button hole, F, therein much easier than he can place the collar button through the standing portion of a collar, where it is necessary ordinarily to use two hands to perform that operation.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A turned down collar having an outer or turndown portion andan inner or neckband 5 portion, an upwardly-projecting tab connected only at its lower end to the lower edge of said neckhand portion and provided with a buttonhole to receive a rear collarhutton, said tab except at its lower edge be- ;5 ing free to move away from said neckband.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses. 1 if) EiR-ENCE W, FERGUSON Witnesses:
VVIILIAM K. FROST, WILLIAM A. LUT.
