FREDERICK JAMES, OF TAMWORTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED COLLARS AND CRAVATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,959, dated June 17, 1873; application filed April 12, 1873.
To all whom @t may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK D. JAMES, of Tamworth, in the county of Carroll and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Combined Collar and Cravat, of which the following is a specification: W
Figure 1 represents a front view of my combined neck-tie and collar. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, and Fig. 3, a face view of the same unfolded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has for its object to produce a simple combination of bow, cravat or necktie, and collar, being more particularly intended for use on paper orpart paper collars, though applicable also to other kinds. The invention consists in constructing the collar with proj ecting flaps at the ends of its outer fold, for forming the base of the cravat, and with a project- 1n g T-flap at one end of its inner fold for formin g the outer part of the collar, the T-flap having several button-holes to allow its parts to be fastened to the same stud by which the collar is held to the front of the shirt.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter A represents the collar, of suitable style, a being its outer, b its inner fold. From the ends of its outer fold project flaps d d, which are folded outward, as in Fig. 2, to form the base or inner part of the cravat or bow. From one end of the inner collar-fold 1) projects aT-flap, B, as shown in Fig. 3. The same has three button-holes, e, f, and g, besides which there is the ordinary button-hole h at its junction with the collar. The flap B is folded at l and i and its upper arm j then turned over it, so that all button-holes will be in line for the application of the stud m. This is fully shown in Fig. 2, the appearance of the completed bow being given in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-' ent 1 The collar A provided with the flaps d d and with the T-flap B, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
FREDERICK D. JAMES. Witnesses:
DAVID JAMES, L. E. JAMES.
