SAMUEL BUTZ, OF EASTON; PENNSYLVANIA.
APPAREL SHIRT-*BOSOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,164, dated June 19, 1900. Application filed October 27,1899. Serial No. 784,948- (No morleLi T0 aZZ whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BUTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Easton, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shirts and Detachable Bosoms Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to shirts and detachable bosoms; and the objects of the same are to provide means for holding the bosom securely to the shirt and to provide a bosom with stiifeners at the side edges thereof to prevent its breaking or rumpling crosswise, even when subjected to considerable strain.
With these objects in view my invention consists of a combined shirt and bosom such as shown in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a front View of a shirt made in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a bosom provided with means for attaching it to the shirt shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of a fulldress bosom which I may use.
Like letters and numerals of reference indicate like parts wherever they occur.
Referring now to Fig. 1, the numeral 1 designates a shirt, which may be open in front or at the back, as may be desired, and which may be provided with an ordinary integral bosom or may be of the neglige style. At the sides of the bosom, substantially in the center thereof, fabric straps 2 are secured by their inner ends, as shown. The outer ends of these straps are provided with buttonholes 3 to be connected to the buttons 4:. At the sides of the neckband small fabric loops 5 are secured. At the side edges of the bosom 1ongitudinal pockets at are provided, and stiffeners or stays bare placed in these pockets to prevent the bosom from breaking down. The
pockets may be formed in the outer edge of thebosom, orseparate pockets may be stitched on. lhe stays or stilfeners may be readily withdrawn when it is desired to send the bosom to the laundry and may be replaced when returned. This feature is particularly desirable for full-dress bosoms, and, in fact, may be used to advantage on other kinds ofbosoms. A tab 10 is attached to the bottom of the bosom for holding it down.
XV hen this bosom is to be secured to the shirt, the ends of the neckband 7 are passed through the loops 5, attached to the neckband of the shirt, and the buttonholes are engaged with the button of the rear of the neckband in the shirt.
It will be observed from the foregoing that the shirt and bosom made in accordance with my invention will be easy and comfortable to the wearer, will permit a great amount of movement without breaking the bosom, ow ing to the fact that it is stiffened longitudinally and that it is held in place at four oardinal points by means which permit a certain amount of flexibility, and which may be quickly put ou or taken off.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim is- A detachable shirt-bosom having pockets at its side edges on the rear surface thereof, removable stiffeners in said pockets, and an integral neckband attached to the bosom centrally in front and its free ends adapted to be passed through loops on the neckband of a shirt and connected by a button at the back, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses.
SAMUEL BUTZ.
