HYMAN L. RUBIN AND HARRIS SIMON, OF CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA.
COMBINATION VEST AND BOSOlVl.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 616,360, dated December 20, 1898.
Application led August 9, 1898.
To @ZZ 'Lz/'700112, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HYMAN L. RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, and HARRIS SI,- MON, a citizen of Russia, residing at Charleston, in the county of Charleston and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Vest and Bosom, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wearingapparel, and especially to a combination vest, bosom, and shirt-sleeve garment in which the bosom and collar-band, made of a single piece of cloth, are detachably held to the lining of the vest, being designed to be removed for laundry or other purposes and when in use with the vest to be removed with the latter from the person.
Another and an important feature of the present invention resides in the provision of means of attaching the lower end of one of the bosom-sections by means of a tab to the trousers of the wearer, the two lower ends of the bosom-piece being adapted to be button ed together and held by means of the same button to the under edge of the Vest, which button is obscured when the vest is buttoned up.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists, further, in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings- Figure l is a perspective view showing the parts arranged as they would appear when adjusted for wearing upon a person. Fig. 2 is a view showing the inside of the vest with the bosom-section attached thereto. Fig. 8 is a detail view showing the manner of attaching the two lower ends of the bosom-section to the vest and together.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a vest which is made as to its body portion similar to ordinary vests for gentlemens wear, but has sleeves B, which may be fastened in any suit Serial No. 688,200. (No model.)
able manner to the sleeve-opening, so that when desired they may be removed for any purpose desired.
The bosom C is made, preferably, of the half shield portions E', connected together at their upper ends by the contracted collarband e, which has buttonholes e and e, the latter of which, e', is provided to receive a collar-button and the former a button F, secu red to the lining of the Vest. At different loca-v tions, secured to the lining of the vest near its button edges, are disposed the buttons G, whereby the semishield-shaped sections of the bosom are buttoned to said buttons, so that when the edges of the vest are brought together and buttoned the straight adjacent edges of the bosom portions will overlap, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, in position to receive a stud. At the lowerend of one of the bosom-sections is a tab H, which carries a button K, designed to be buttoned to the lower end of the second or opposite bosomsection.
In the edge of the vest containing the row of buttons M is a buttonhole N, which is adapted to receive the button K, carried by said tab. The lower end of the tab is provided with a buttonhole, which is provided, as is usually the case, for the purpose of allowing the tab to be secured to a button on the trousers or drawers of the wearer. By buttoning the tab to the button on the drawers and also buttoning the two lower ends of the bosom together by button K and also buttoning the latter to the vest at buttonhole N it will be observed that the bosom portions when buttoned to the drawers, as well as the vest, will be held down and prevented from wrinkling.
We are aware that it is old in the art to construct detachable bosoms Which are held to shirts and vests, and hence make no claim for such a construction.
Having th us described ourinvention, what we claim to be new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a combination vest and bosom, comprising the vest proper with sleeves, a bosom-piece made up of two complemental half-shield portions connected together at their upper ends with IOO a contracted collar-band, a series of buttons I bosom portion, and also with a buttonhole in I carried by the lining of the Vestnear its meetthe vest, all as shown and described.
